Frustrated!

I’ve got a 7 month old female that I’ve had in the woods maybe 20 times, she’s not going with me old dog at all! I know she’s young but I’m still frustrated! She has barked at a coon that I hung up in a tree. She stays within eye site.
Any ideas?

You have probably put more wood time with her than most other dogs that age. No reason to be frustrated.
If you want one that is staying gone at 7 months old. She is obviously not the dog for you. There is no magic wand to wave and make it happen.

If you could just be patient things should work.

Questions I have, which might be an indicator of the future is this. In those 20 times out. What did she do when the other dog struck and ran a track. What did she do when the other dog treed. What did she do around the tree while the other dog was treeing. What did she do when the coon was shot out. Those are the questions I would be looking for an answer to. Build on any positive indicators you see. If there are none then she needs to be put up for a while. She is young and you can actually do more harm with a dog that is having no fun at all in the woods than you would do with her staying in the pen for a while.

When mine come back they go in box they figured it out real quick no fun at truck

Keep in mind you are dealing with about a 3 to 4 yr old kid at her age. What would you expect a 3 to 4 year old kid to do at t-balor soccer. Every now and then there is a freak kid that is good that early but most start getting better and excelling at sports when they get 7 to 14 years old. She is still very young I did she was mine I would give her a couple months to mature a little more I start mine in the big woods around 9 months old. I do a lot before then solo time getting them ready for actual hunting. Good luck with her.

If you can let her run lose in the day time around the house , are taker her in the daytime and let her go , Imo the ones that have the drive and go and want to , that make those top notch dogs are born with it and usually show it the frost time unsnapped, I have pups here going 300 plus yards rite now ar 10 weeks old .

No two pups are alike just like people look at the comments on this board everybody has a different opinion if she is out a couple hundred yrds let her go if she comes back to the truck and won't leave put her in the box and leave her there in my experience they will let you know when they are ready and everyone's different. It's up to you to decide weather you like them enough to wait on them.

Like already mentioned...the pup needs to see you as boring in the woods...and the other dogs as fun to be with...I take mine straight from the kennel to the dog box and cast it with the grown dogs...then I sit back somewhere in the woods and ignore the pup until it decides that ranging out with the other dogs is way more fun than sitting around with me...once the pup figures that out it's all down hill from there...

The reason I said take the pup straight from kennel to the dog box and then to the woods and to the spot you will start the hunt from is because of what I believe...if the pup is full of energy it will want to do things such as follow the trained dogs...if the pup was already played out the tendency is for the pup to hang out rather than hunt...also if the pup has eaten too much then that could be a hindrance to what you are trying to accomplish as well...there is no set way to train a pup...just let your imagination be your guide...
If the puppy has it in him it won't take much to get it going...just doing the right things at the right time and keeping it simple...
