Shipping
Kevin
Couple years ago it cost me about 300$$ to ship from Dean in Indiana to Texas, fed Ex. JesseJ
Some of the cost is shipping the cryo-shipper back.
Isn't that weird. You have to pay just as much to ship the empty container back as you pay to ship the semen.
.
Guys there is a better way and at some point in the future it will be so common that the cost will be reasonable. We have been discussing bringing a service to coon hunters and share with them a network that handles frozen semen along with us having a website that advertises the dogs. Two things happened to slow that down. We were going to start this program with our dog and go through the motion and get the bugs out before sharing with the public. Our dog is old and cannot reproduce anymore and we just didn't want to offer a service we haven't tested. I will share it with your and you can check it our yourself.
There is a company called Zoetis and they have and are putting together a network of vets that will Draw, Freeze and ship to their storage facility for long term storage. They also just offer Draw and send.to their network that allows it to get sent to a certified vet in your state. Since they are handling their own tanks there is a savings there. Like, I said. We were getting ready to test the service and system when the opportunity went away for my dog. We won't offer a service we haven't tested and know exactly how it works and any hidden cost. I am sure others have used this company and in the future when there are more vets in the network it will even get easier and cheaper. Actually after Corey and I looked into it. The vet that James was using for Blaze down in Winter Haven was a vet in the system. The nearest vet in the system for me to use is in S, Ga. about 2 hours away. On there website there are vets listed by state that are in the network.

Everywhere I have checked - except with Dean - the cost is astronomical! You guys that live a reasonable distance from Dean at Nevergone are REALLY lucky!! This is frozen - on fresh chilled a fraction of that.
Mr. Bruce, I believe there is a real opportunity here as you mentioned. Someone could get just regular rich as opposed to obscenely rich like the folks you have to deal with now are - with a network as you describe, charging reasonable prices.
Just the other day I was contemplating using some frozen semen I have stored with a South Ga vet (contact me privately and I will warn you about them) on my own female and after adding up the litany of charges it was going to cost me about $1,000 to breed my own semen to my own female (if everything went perfect)!!!
It just got more ridiculous from there......... so Im thinking toward the end of this conversation I just need to "rescue" my semen from this place, so when I asked the question - "If I showed up at your clinic with my own, ready to go tank, can I get my semen?" The answer was, "yes sir, but there will be a $50 per breeding retrieval fee." You just can not make this up.
At this point, I cant help myself and am laughing so as not to cry and the lady I am speaking with is getting upset with me and says "sir we can always just destroy the semen", to which I asked " well how much does that frikkin cost?!!!"

Mr. McDaniel, I encourage you or anyone else to check out the Zoetis website or give them a call. Like most websites there is a lot there and sorting through all the dog and getting to the dog reproduction stuff can be a challenge. Like I said. Their system sounded very interesting to us. Since we were having our dog collected at a vet that was in the network already it was a plus. But our dog decided not to cooperate with us any longer so we did not get the chance to go through the process of shipping to another vet in the network and having a breeding done. Corey at the store did a lot of research on this and made a lot of calls to Zoetis. I will check with him today and see if he can remember what we talked about as the cost of a breeding. What we wanted to do is get their system down and then encourage and educate people to use their system and we would have a website advertising dogs that had been collected and then share the process with prospective owners of the females. Just wanted to make the process as cheap and as easy as possible. I think in future years with education it will become a more popular method of breeding.

Wow ouch no one should ever have a dog collected there.
Befriend a local cattle farmer would be a possible solution.
$$$$$
From Nevergone to Ms. State Univ. in Starkville, Ms. with container return was $385.00 as of yesterday...

Yes I think you can almost buy a small tank for the $ some of these guys want.
