Time to tune up
With coons now in the corn around the house I've started back hunting after hunting very little to none all summer before now. Per usual the dogs haven't done much of anything other than looked like fools in the two nights I've hunted. That's ok though, I've never had a dog that could pick right up where he or she left off after that much time off. Some have I know but I haven't had one of them. I'd rather have the nights now to shake out the cob webs and get tuned up before fall and better hunting weather and more spots to hunt. I expect as the nights and weeks go on my dogs will get more and more in tune or at least I hope the will. Once the dogs get in shape and start looking better in the woods I'll be ready to hit some of my other spots that require a little more driving. For now, at least until deer season comes in and the dogs get back in shape I'm hunting right behind and around my house. It's not nice to have to burn the roads up with dogs that are out of shape just to get them woods time to get in shape. Once deer season comes in around here I'll be driving 40 minutes to an hour to my better spots to hunt. How far will you be driving to pleasure hunt this fall?
5 minutes.
