Question of the Day

A single dog is treed the other three are running. The 8 starts it’s an obvious den tree. The handler of the treed dog is satisfied after 3 minutes of shine time. Does one of the other three handlers have the right to say he isn’t satisfied yet even though it’s an obvious den.

Not sure why they wouldn't be satisfied. I mean there dog isn't even treed there. I would think they don't have much of a say

I

Would think other handlers would have reasonable time to look for off game even if den tree.

I've found a bunch of coons sitting outside obvious den trees over the years. So I have never felt that every den is an immediate circle, let's move on.
If that other handler is seriously searching for a coon or off-game, I think that's his right. If he is obviously doing nothing but attempting to delay things, then that's a problem.

Every handler has the right to search the tree for eight minutes

I

Don’t think so if it’s for the purpose of delaying the cast. Maybe wrong but that’s my understanding.

I know in the other kc you cannot delay cast in a situation like this.

If the majority agrees to score it then it's scored and done.

I think any cast member can request that they have the full time to shine a tree before casting their vote. Went into a tree one night, started the time on the tree and right off the bat we saw a possum. Continued to shine the tree and found a coon. A den tree with no leaves shouldn't take the full shine time but I don't see UKC making a blanket rule for every tree that says when the majority are satisfied then that is how the tree should be scored if the shine time isn't up.

I

Don’t think there is a specific rule on this but I think I remember ukc saying that on a tree such as a small tree no leaves everyone can plainly see is slick and someone wants full shine time to help their dog out in some way that it should not be done and what to do in that situation.

I was on a cast where 3 guys wanted to vote to circle a leafy tree after 2 min of shine time. Fourth man continued to shine and found a possum after 6 min of shine time.

Posted by Night Shift on 05-02-2018 09:58 PM:

I guess my concern with no leaves and it’s a den that doesn’t take a long time to shine. The only reason why someone would want to wait is to delay cast and maybe get you leash locked.

I was on big hunt one night. My dog was deep by herself. When we arrived at tree about 5 minitues was left. I knew others could not hear there dogs with her barking. I told them I wanted help. They didn't help me shine. I found coon quick. Didn't say anything until hunt was over. I was delaying cast but would have showed them coon if they would have been looking for mine. When we pulled her off tree and walked a min or two we heard there's and they were treed. One man didn't know it but we would have tied and he would have beat me on tiebreaker. I could do same thing if I needed to if they didn't have that rule to hold a cast up if cast has walked out of hearing of other dogs. So delaying a cast shouldn't be allowed.

if losing a cast i would want to recast my dog fast . winning i would want to blow my squalor and watch the hole till the 8 is up . who knows other dogs might just quit what they were doing and come on in .lol who knows that 50 $ Squalor might just work its magic .lol

So, is it "delaying the cast"? Or is it "trying to win"?

Posted by Night Shift on 05-03-2018 12:30 AM:

You have to admit it’s an intriguing question. Lol

TRYING TO WIN .LOL

If

You’re trying to squall one out of a den or it’s a leafy tree ok but if it’s a stone cold 20 foot slick you’re delaying the cast.
