Show Hounds
what hunting traits would hounds breed for generations for the show ring still carry ? would they still be able to get the job done in the woods ? many of the hunters i talk to agree the hounds of today breed for the score card are not what they enjoy hunting . babblers who run thew the woods without a track .dogs that tree empty trees and have to be switched and sent on time and time again . dogs that go a mile every time they are cast to be alone . dogs that jockey for position face barking and fighting if a hound decides to tree with it .dogs that pace and bark in the the pen and box when hauled . would a show dog breed hound who was put in the woulds be a pleasure to hunt in the woods with out the faults found in the hounds breed for the score card ?
It would probably tree a coon but if nothing in it's bloodlines was hunted then there is no telling what kind of traits it would have. It might not have a very strong prey drive or a very strong tree ability
go for it---
I have gotten darn good coonhounds out of GrCh parents that had way better mouths, looks and balanced hounds then I have had the luck with high priced pups out of GrNiteCh parents.
Remember some of these "show" hounds are pleasure hunted and for reasons that maybe the owner has a hearing lost or other health problems can't be in the hunts doesn't take away from them.
Good luck
