Thyroid Question
I'm sure this has been asked on here a thousand times before, but what are the signs of a dog with a Thyroid problem?
It really doesn't matter. If you want optimal performance you need your hound around a 3.0 to 3.5 in winter or cooler weather. Makes a huge difference in there performance. In hot weather you might won't a little lower. Signs are excessive drinking. Running out of gas. Weight gain the list goes on and on. Everyhound ive checked as been between 1.1 to 1.4. And a few around .6 to.7. Normal ranges are between 1.0 to 4. So don't let your vet tell you a 1.4 is ok. It's to low for a performance dog.

You do what you want they belong to you, but their thyroid is normal. What you are doing is using a drug to enhance their performance and destroying their thyroid in the process. Like I said you do what you want but thats just not for me.

Like I said. A few have been hypothyroid. Most have been between 1-1.4. Witch is low normal. That's ok if your going to hunt it one night a week or for a lap dog. Not high enuff for a working dog. In order for them to sustain optimal performance they need to be a minimuimal of 2.5. I've checked about 5. Different breeds and different lines. None have had above a 1.5. Yes all worked better at a high normal range. It's not like thyroid is worse now than it use to be. It's people have figured that out.
If you want optimal performance you need your hound around a 3.0 to 3.5 in winter or cooler weather. So what should the levels be in the summer ????

Curious how or where you get the test kit from and what your treating it with ? Vet's down here are extremely expensive and not always very helpful .

10 panel tick test or whatever she said it was is real expensive cheapest I found was 350 $ plus 45 $ vet fee antibiotics extra t test was 100 $ plus 45 vet visit antibiotics extra she's 9 yrs old nice tree dog good track dog I try to hunt her 3 night's a week . She's not a comp dog anymore I just want her healthy for as long as possible but if It's gonna be 150 $ a month for 3 month's plus antibiotics that seem to cost more then human antibiotics it's a big investment for an old pleasure dog .

Call around and find a vet that will just charge you to draw the blood, send it off and then telephone you results. It should cost you about $50. Order the Synthroid from Canadian Pharmacy, cheap and no prescription needed. Just start out at 1 per day and increase or decrease as needed. Google hypothyroidism in dogs and read all about it on the interweb. The vets are going to price themselves out of business. If you can't afford them then do it yourself. Dealing with Thyroid issues is not an exact science. Use common sense. Some vets have it and some don't. They are human.

I am not trying to be hard to get along with but would u explain
1- Draw blood = appointment = $45.00
2- Where to send it = $50.00
3- Telephone results WHERE
4- order= ? $
The vet charged me $141.50 for blood work
Never the less going to have well over $150.00 and still don't have no idea what you are doing just giving the dog some pills as needed?.
At least that is my thought.
HELP me understand please

No appointment neccesary... lead dog in, tech draws blood, walk out. Tech calls you with results, usually next day.
Google is a great thing...all the dosing info you need. Did you try Google? Of course if you can't understand it then I guess that you will have to pay someone else to do it for you.
What do you think the vet is doing? If the level is low, you give more. If the level is high, you give less. It is not exactly rocket science. You are treating symptoms anyway. Start with a minimal amount and increase until your dog is doing well.
H.L. I sent you a PM.
Richard
I received your message. It looks like you live in a good area of this world, It don't work like you explained in your message around here must have appointment around here to see a vet. Anyway good talking to you.
