Curious on what yalls opinions are

First off I am not a breeder, never even cared to enter that realm but after toying with the idea. I came up with several questions I hear the term 'line' as in a line of dogs i.e.:the house line. What in your opinion at what point can some one absolutely take credit or claim to have there own line of dogs? Say you buy a couple of pups from different people and once you see what you have you breed them. After how many generations do you think you can actually claim any responsibility in the outcome? Also with line breeding how does one come about to start actually fine tuning your dogs? I would imagine you would have to start with more than just two dogs, whatbis a solid base? 4 great hounds closely related? Just trying to wrap my head around how someone can start a 'line' and perfect it.
