Wanting to get back in the game

After losing my last female to cancer, I have been out of the hunting business. Well my son is of age and wants to hunt so i suppose it's about time to start the journey of finding another black dog to once again get out in the woods and this time with my sidekick. I'm just a pleasure Hunter and honestly not much into comp hunts. That may change in time according to how my boy responds to it. Looking for maybe an older dog that is still true just maybe little slow now. Will be hunting by itself mostly. No preference in male or female. Live out in the woods and have plenty of wild coon around. Borderline problematic with them. Don't need a world beater , just a good ol country dog that will stay put and be good starter dog for my 8 year old boy. I'm afraid if I start with a pup at first or young dog that my son may lose interest before the rewards of effort set in. So start him with hound that doing it on its own already and if he likes it as much as I did/do then we will get a pup to run with this first dog. Live in Parkersburg, WV .
