Training a young pup
I have a female out of DOUBLE SPRINGS ECHO II AGAIN & SOUTHERN BLUE BELL. She is an amazing dog and I have been working with her on obidence and a little bit with a drag. I hunted alot as a kid with started dogs but never trained one myself from a puppy. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to make her into a top notch coon dog she's 13 weeks. Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.
she is only 13 weeks old, long way to go ,lots of time, lots of boot leather. good luck
I have a littermate
Just let it be a pup right now. Dont show it to many caged coons and work on the basic obedience stuff now. Haul it around in box, tie it out, lead it around, and let it spend time in the woods. I live on some land so I leave mine out a good bit. Once I see him start disappearing from the house and getting into the woods at night the i will start taking him. Each pup is different but dont ruin it with too many caged coons.
Thank you both for the advice.
get a hide or coon tail let it chew on it a little every day. And remember to take it from the pup before it gets bored with it. start smaller with the hide or tail so you don't scare the pup. if the pup shows no interest skip a day or so. be patient.
