This is probably a dumb question but.....
Why does the subject of cheating and everything that surrounds it dominate this board even beyond the dogfood and ivermectin threads? It's like this board enjoys talking about cheating more than anything else.
Well, like I said, prolly a dumb question.

As a younger man I drove many miles just to be able to hear some of the legends of the sport talk and learn by their experiences. Now I wouldn't drive 10 miles to hear what these modern hunters have to say !
Cheating = lack of dog power = must be to much Facebook not enough timber time !!
I am not impressed at all

Well obviously this year’s world hunt version 1 definitely brought it to the surface, as if it wasn’t already.
It’s a no brainer why the # of pleasure hunters will never enter a competition, as it is very difficult to be a newbie in the comp world and not feel like you’re being cheated at every drop, even when you aren’t being cheated, especially if a person reads but a fraction of coon hunting social media these days. And by social media, I’m including this forum. It’s no different, maybe a tad more PG, but that’s it.

PKC Ch, Grch Grnch 2008 Tx state champion They call me Crazy Betty
PKC SCh CH Grnch They call me Howler too
I would rather listen to James merchant talk about banjo 2.
My
Guess would be when you add the people who think they got cheated to the ones that actually did get cheated you’ve got a pretty large number of people that want to talk about cheating.

Tar, I would rather hear the man that sold Banjo 2 to Merchant talk about dogs.
Yepper me too back when all it was about was treeing coons ,bragging rights ,a big ole shiney trophy and putting hides on the barn to feed the family and it was that way for me when I first started I would go back in a heartbeat.

Jim, there is still hope, "united we stand, divided we fall". It all starts with ones self and doing what's right in everything we do. Setting an example and calling out the cheaters, banning them from the hunts. Everything has a beginning and doing right , starts with each of us! Dave

Everybody acts like this is the first year they have had someone cheat. Some of those old timers that we like to idolize were some of the worst, some of the great handlers that get atta boys were/are some of the worst. I hunted a lot back in the early eighties, it was going on then and it will be going on long after i am dead and gone!

Say what you want maybe somtimes but all those old legends I drew were hauling heavy heavy dog power and if they got back in the game today you would see a new winners list by treeing coons they used to put special judges on them guess what they was really treeing that many coons for three crappen hours in the same spot ! Not trying to pull strings for a peice of crap trade dog y'all about to hit a nerve !!
Tar
To your question jim i think people always talked about it but if you were at the hunt you heard about it, if you werent there you probably didnt hear as much. without social media it was a lot easier to sweep inder the rug, kept hidden, etc.. Really you used to find out who won what when the magazine came out, now we all sit at home and watch play by plays and get upset if they dont have enough cell reception to post in real time. If something happens on a cast now chances its on fb before cast gets back to club house.

As an old guy I do a lot of listening and not much talking on a cast with this younger bunch and you go to a tree and the first words you hear are those limbs touch or there is a nest or there is a hole before they ever look for a coon then all a sudden ............ Oh my goodness hear is a coon like they are surprised back in the day to many slick trees in three hours you were out and we were not surprised to see coons in our trees.

I think that Mr Jamerson is right. There has always been talk but just among the few people at the local clubhouse. You used to have to pick up your phone the next day and call someone to talk about it or if you were older go to the coonhunter's breakfast spot. Coonhunters are naturally gossips when it comes to hunting just like a bunch of housewives talking about their husbands. Nowadays they just get on the interweb to gossip. And you don't even have to go to a hunt to be a part of it. You can get on the interweb, gossip and feel like you participated. A lot of people coonhunt on the interweb now. So it is only natural that they would competition hunt on the interweb. That is why there is such an uproar when there is no play by play.

It is human nature. For some odd reason, dirt is always more interesting than honey. We all would like to believe we are above that nonsense, but in fact many really are not.
Alas, the flawed human condition ... it isn't always pretty.

Jim,
I will be out tonight too. Don't think I'll be that far west though. Last night the snow was about 3-4" and crunchy. You may run into some fog tonight.
I have cabin fever so I'll probably be out getting soaked tomorrow night in the rain.
Good Luck
