Coon Season

Guess when you live in a State where you can hunt coon year round and there is no season, it takes some of the excitement away waiting for an opening day. I have seen a bunch of post and messages on Facebook and it looks like excitement is in the air around the country. Good luck and stay safe hunting. Down here if some bad weather rolls in and it gets down to 40 and too cold to hunt. Just wait a day and it will be in the 60's again.

Bruce I wish it would warm up to 40 here. Down below 20 tonight. Feed for coons is gettin scarce and they've moved into the swamps. Should be just enough ice in the swamps tonight to carry a coon but the dog will be punching thru every step. No snakes tho.

It was in the teens and windy here last night so we stayed home. My husband is asking landowners if he still has permission to hunt on their property. He asks every year just in case they change their minds.

Was 23 here last nigh at 6 pm and very clear. Me and the pup stayed in!! Getting around to go hit it tonight. 30 degrees and cloudy. Believe they will move.

Donnie, not to hijack the thread but what part of Nova Scotia do you hale from? I spent a couple afternoons in Halifax and a week up in Newfoundland. Brought a bottle of Screech home that lasted several years. Man would have to be in a bad way to drink that stuff regularly. Lol

None of the country I saw looked much like coon country. But the moose and the skeeters were everywhere!

I cannot imagine hunting in your country in the summer Bruce. Whole nother level of commitment right there!! You see many snakes while hunting? Gators a big risk to your hounds?

I'm hoping to hunt MS and AR this winter. When it's safe!!

Larry I'm just outside Truro, an hour north of Halifax. There is some nice country couple hours west of here with lots of agriculture but what I hunt is pretty much what you saw. We have some coon but they're spread out and they gotta hunt them they ain't gonna trip over them. Dirty blown down softwood forests if it hasn't already been cut off. Lots of trash. I've sent dogs everywhere. If they're any good here, they're better anywhere else lol

You're right that newfie screech is bad medicine lol

Mr. Ratman, I had one from he--. Dogs looked good, not so for the hunters. Got to the first tree lost the scope off the rifle. Second dumb, driving back to the timber tore the exhaust off the truck, dog leach worked. Third dumb, done a header off the creek bank.
