-- Terrible way to start the season (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928494052)
Terrible way to start the season
I turned my 7 year old female out last Wednesday night, and she never made it back to the box. I cut her loose and she seemed just as hyper and active as ever. She opened twice, so I looked at the Garmin just a minute later to see which way she was headed and noticed she wasn't moving. After about five minutes of her not moving or opening, I knew something wasn't right.
Went in to check on her and she was laying there already gone. No signs of anything wrong, and no symptoms up to that point. She did have a little foam coming from her mouth and a little blood towards the back of her throat. Anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong? It just puzzles me. It has been a tough few days, and a terrible way to start the season. She was one heck of a hunting partner, and I am sure going to miss that old girl.
Dog
Sound like a heart attack, or could have twisted her stomach. More likely heart attack to kill that fast. IMO. Dave

Sorry to hear that.
Sorry to hear that!
Many years ago my best hunting buddy and I were hunting on opening night of our season. We would often throw just 1 of our dogs into a small piece of timber. We threw his in first and she ran a track and came treed. We went in and my son was shooting the coon and all of a sudden, his dog quit barking as we shot. Didn't think anything of it until my buddy said. YOU SHOT MY DOG! We looked and she was on the ground dead. Of course we didn't, but just that fast she was gone.
Sad night, he carried the coon back to the truck, I carried his dog for him. BAD way to start the season.

Sir
Sorry for your loss.
That was what seemed like one long, tough walk with her out of the woods that night. I wish I would have looked around better to just see if I saw anything that may have caused this, but at the time I just wasn't in the mind to do that.
I was lucky enough to get two pups out of her that are about a year old now. I had just started taking them with her some. This all happened on the first turnout of kill season here in NC, so didn't even get a chance to shoot one out to all of them together. Hopefully I can make a decent dog out of these pups, but they are sure going to have big shoes to fill.
Dang hate to hear that it wasn't but about 5 years ago thet Trudy fell off a bluff on me so I know how you feel
