Frozen Semen Pups
Question for anyone with experience in raising a litter from a Sire that has passed several years ago. Have you experienced any difference in actions of the pups. I have raised maybe 4 litters the past couple years. I now have one pup whose Sire died about 8 years ago. I have only seen this one semen pup and I agree that in no way can one dog be used as an example of what really happens out there. With that said, this pup seems calmer and makes a lot less noise around the house than my litters from recent past. I know everyone wants them wound up and this pup has a lot of energy and drive. Just a more sensible acting pup.

Bruce,
I have a semen pup out of Hardwood Patch here at t he house (8 months old last week).
I believe Patch passed in 95 or 97 so around 20 years give or take and i don't know when he was collected, but assuming several years before he passed.
Pup is smart, treed three coons alone to date, goes hunting good and is just an all around nice pup.. Sucker is full of mischief though, he'll think up ways to honk off the Boss (AKA my wife).. Swear he enjoys getting under her skin.
Rides the golf cart, rides on the 4 wheeler, swims in the pond and handles like one should.. Nicest pup i've ever raised. Thinking he might just turn out to be a coon dog as well.
FWIW
I have a 3 year old semen pup from Billy The Kid and I really like her

Larry is your pup out of Jay's female? If so I have a litter mate sister. So she is a semen pup out of a semen gyp. Mine is just like you described yours. I'm Hunting her by herself. She doesn't get it done every night but she is tree some coon. I also have a 1/2 brother to her out of Jay's gyp that is the calmest dog I have had in years.

Bruce , I cant comment on how they behave or act. But have you compared Frozen semen pups to back when the stud was alive and live breeding females?
I mean , how many pups turned out? Is that sire reproducing the same % of Nt Ch and Gr Nt's ?

I have noticed a couple dogs lately from old blood and beginning of the bloodlines we have now that seem alot calmer. May be that the dogs of yesterday were alot calmer and now we are seeing it when that blood springs up through frozen semen and stands next to todays blood. Just a thought
Joey - yes my pup is out of Jay's Lizzy female.. Yeah, missed that, she is a semen pup herself.. Pretty darn cool..
Mine does not get it done every night either, but for 8 months old he's awfully nice. Started off treeing and now is figuring out how to run track and coming right along..
Taking him to Michigan tonight for a good hunt i hope.. Is yours independent? this sucker is.. Night before last I had him 290 yards west of me and my female 392 yards east.. Thank goodness they eventually both ended up north and together.. He has no fear and no worries about getting out and about by himself.
I think that is an awfully good female Jay has and she has produced some very nice pups.
I have a young dog out of a female Archie Dore had(he recently sold her)her name is House's Lipper's Bobby, she is out of Lipper semen that was implanted in House's Lipper's Hope( littermate to Dr.Law) ,Archie bred Bobby to Loose Tin Doc,(double Coma) owned by Bob Dudley, and I have a male from that cross that is one of the smartst pups that I have ever raised and owned!
This pup I call Spade is out of a double semen female, and you would think that this pup should be and idiot, WRONG!
He is smart and started easy, and has been treeing his own coon for over a year,he turned 2 in July, and I haven't hunted him hard at all,(but he is fixin to get it)he is LOUD and 1 of the most athletic dogs I have ever been around,Archie says the whole litter is the same way!

She doesn’t have much to do with another dog. She started out running and the Treeing. Still doesn't have the Treeing down just yet but she is still a baby.

Mr. VanDusen, sounds like you have a dandy and I am a big fan of the Coma dogs.. Think they go back to some very fine hounds..
Joey - yes for 8 months old, this litter is doing quite well.. I believe three are started pretty well and have treed their own coons. I waited on Jay's list for two years to get mine.. glad i waited!!! enjoy your pup and with any luck we will have a Patch pup hunt in the future!
The question is where have we gone wrong?
I remember dog's from 15 or 20 years ago, lot of nice dog's. No matter what color they were a lot of GOOD dog's. Real honest coon dog's. I haven't seen anything that compares in the last 5 to 7 years. Again I don't care about color.
Are dog are supposed to get better generation after generation.

Bruce, You know I am raising these Tree Blaster pups from semen in 1993 and they are the most laid back pups ever, until you show them game
You can actually lead 2 at one time.
The other thing I have noticed is they are built different then today's hounds, more like running hounds. Not as squared off but still very houndy.

Conrad some of our discussions is what made me to try a throw back pup. lol I will be perfectly honest and back 15 years ago you couldn't give me a pup Bred this close to Sackett, JR. I know his reproducing record is GREAT but I don't hunt up North where coon are plentiful and conditions allow many to forgive a dog for missing.
I think the line of dogs I like over the past few years have went a little to much tracking so I got me some tree dog blood to slow them down.

Bruce, That is the exact reason I went to Tree Blaster, natural tree dogs that can still run a track, My Lipper, Coma bred dogs can flat move a track and are deadly accurate but sometimes can use a little stay put power. I am enjoying seeing the differences in the older blooded dogs.

I have a litter here that are almost 3 months old and I can't tell the difference between this surgically implanted litter and a natural litter. Pups are strong and out of control, bold, loud and into everything.
Adios,
Gary
I had a semon pup off of the demon dog from the 80's. It was the craziest dog I've ever had!! I think the whole litter was retarded. I've got a rat semon female now that I just love.

Mr Friar - Tree Blaster was a nice hound for sure and threw some very good dogs.. I owned two off of him and both were keepers.. Confirmation was not the best, but those suckers would move a track and have a coon at the end. Trying to get back to that type of dog.
Good luck with your litter and i hope you get them in the right hands that push them!!

I have one male pup off wipeout willie semen x ice clover ccoon waxer that the guy had truck issues and had to save his money. Dob9/24/17 they just coming 4 weeks pkc ss paid up chkc superstud nom and ukc reg . Ps have been on soft food for a week now and wormed twice , every single pup is full of color and super nice looking and should have huge mouths as momma is loud ! So here you go semen pup off wipeout clover cross which has been a successful cross in the past. And as close to moose as you will get wothout breeding to moose 571-233-5819 for info and pics of pups also have set up with rob fry to del pups the forst Week of dec, so you can't get any easier or better bred pup ! Thanks for reading
Bruce, the Sire of your pups was an extremely nice hound. Sackett JR was a fine hound and the man who owned him would not tolerate a consistent slick tree type dog. I'd take one right out if him if I could get it today. You keep a firm hand on that pup of yours and I'll miss my guess if you are not a fan of these "northern" dogs when he is grown.
Us northern guys used to be hide hunters and serious about it. I'd guess we as a group are less tolerant of a slick tree type dog than anyone. We always blamed the slick treeing on southern other KC hunters lol. Score card dogs was the term I believe.
Enjoy your pup and hopefully we all get what we want out of these adventures with coonhounds
.
Mr. Hall, I didn't mean to be disrespectful to dogs up North at all. If had a good friend here that had a male straight out of Sackett, jr. which he named Jubal Sackett. He was a very nice hound in all departments. Perhaps the best female I ever owned was heavy Sackett bred and she was a gold champion. She probably crossed better with my Wipeout male than any other female. Unfortunately she was 8 before I ever bred her. First litter was out a Sunrise male I owned who had a wipeout dam. The most exciting young pups and the most gamey young pups I ever saw. Several made bear dogs for a friend at a young age. I bred her when she was 9 to my wipeout male and might be the best cross that has been made one him. Sometimes I wish my pup was a female and not a male. Then I could breed to any sire I choose. Being a male I have of convince someone to breed to him which is something I am not good at and and really don't enjoy trying to do. We all know the ones that throw good dogs also throw duds. I get caught up trying to be honest and tell everyone about the duds and talk them out of the chance to get a good one. Anyway Thanks for your thoughts.
