Kennel smell

I have an enclosed kennel with a garage door on one end, a window in the other end, and three fans running 24/7. Kennel is sprayed out once or twice a day with a drain for the water to go outside so I keep it clean but there is still a strong dog odor as I have a few dogs. Any suggestions to keep the dog smell neutralized? Was thinking some baking soda in a bucket or something like that might help but I'm sure someone will have a better idea.

cure

smell with out house lime, local feed store should have it

I agree with Bobby
If I ever have smell issues, I use lime

I also scoop up the poop instead of washing away
that way I can discard it far away from the kennel and my house so it doesn't smell

Smell

Use some bleach, kills bacteria and cleans the kennels. Then use the lime.

Carson Jones doesn't have and smell around his kennels because he has a bunch of crap 💩 eaters. They keep the smell down.

my inside kennels are setup for washing down drops slopped floors in ground storage vari fans and heat i too didn't like the smell so i started using the dry system pine shavings scoop up crap and wet spots apply some more shavings daily completely clean out weekly

Posted by ov_blues on 09-27-2017 03:56 PM:

Thanks for the replies. I normally scoop the poop and then spray the worst of the rest every day, once or twice, and then spray out the whole kennel once a week. The only time that I didn't notice much smell was when I used cedar shavings in the boxes and that either covered the scent or absorbed it, however I have been told that cedar shavings aren't good for a dog as their skin will absorb the cedar resin which is not healthy for the dog. Any thoughts on cedar shavings used for dog bedding?

My wife is against using bleach so I'll have to check out the lime idea.

I went to a fish house a while back. As I went inside I notice a strong smell of fish. I told the owner, "This place smells fishy." He said, "What do you expect, it's a fish house."

I'm not worried about it but the drain goes to a small creek and the wife is concerned the bleach will affect the critters using the creek. She is a farm girl but has some strong beliefs on chemicals so I'm looking for an alternative to bleach.

Sorry, i went back and edited that post. I meant to say I had heard cedar shavings weren't good for a dog. I've heard pine was the shavings to use but the pine shavings don't help any with the smell.

Couple of products to try are Odorcide and Zero Odor Pet. Both work the Odorcide is also a disinfectant eucalyptus based and safe for kennels. Zero Odor eliminates odors on a molecular level.
Lime for any place that stays damp like just outside where run off from spraying out the floor happens.
We do not use cedar shavings for dogs.

Tell her it's organic bleach.

Actually, bleach is organic. It is added to drinking water to disinfect it. It is also added to swimming pools that you swim in. The chlorine in it converts to a gas and evaporates. Any runoff will be diluted in the creek and dissipate.

I've put a little bleach in the dogs water buckets before to kill the algae buildup but when the wife says she doesn't want something done she can be pretty adamant about it. I'm not against using bleach but looking for an alternative that won't cause an argument. lol.

My indoor kennel has exhaust fans , they are easy to install , you can set the times to come on and go off , by a switch . Most of what you will find to clean out kennels only covers up the smell for a short time . You can buy these exhaust fans for around 200.
