Dog Food Debate

I recently bought a finished Walker male and it's become evident he is having an allergic reaction to our dog food. My question, what is a good dog food that is relatively easy to find and makes a "grain free" product? He is a hunting dog and a show dog so I am wanting something that will keep his energy levels up and keep some fat on him. Thanks

Why not just feed what he has been fed...if hes finished....he must do fine

We literally just bought the dog..... His body is broke out in hives, not a good situation. Our Vet advised us to find a grain free food and try that out instead. I would appreciate advise based on what I asked, no need to assume the situation

I have had good luck with the 4 Health brand dog food from tractor supply and it is grain free. If you have a Tractor Supply near you it is worth trying.

Valu-Pak, Victor, Pro-Plan, Diamond, Sportmix all have grain free feeds. I personally use Valu-Pak now and love it. Used to feed Victor and had no problems. Haven't tried the others I mentioned.

.

Have you made a call to the previous owner to see what the dog has been eating and to see if the dog has ever had this condition before. That would be my first option. Most vets sell Science Diet and surprised he didn't recommend that.
Valu-Pak also has grain free dog food.

Walmart actually has a grain free brand.
Don't let the fact Walmart sells it stop you from checking it out.
In looking at many feeds for what I call garbage being added to increase fat and proteins . I liked what I saw in their brand.
It is labeled as PURE BALANCE.
Around here it runs 31.00 to 33.00 + tax. Depending on which one you get 24-30 lb bag.
They sell a few brands.
You can google it to check out the brands available.

The one I liked is the Chicken and Brown Rice or Grain free Chicken and brown rice.
If they don't have it in store as most of us know you can order it in and pick it up at the store delivery free.
So getting it is no problem.

Changing a dogs diet is suppose to be a slow process. So changing what a dog eats dramatically will cause breakouts like this.
