Best advice given to a guy who's switching from hounds to curs ??
What things can I expect hunting with a treeing cur rather than a hound ?? I've hunted hounds for 15yrs and never hunted with a cur but wanting a good solid hide dog .....what things can I expect or things I should watch for ?? I'm looking at getting a walker/cur cross .... any advice would sure be appreciated
If you get a cur or mostly cur the best advise I can give you is you can't treat them like a hound. You can't get as rough with them as you may have to with some hounds at times. Most curs if you get rough with them they aren't going to perform well.
That being said they still have to do right.

Don't beat yourself up too bad for waiting too long to switch. Hound time is good experience for making you really appreciate the curdawgs.
Most Curs learn better in the woods by themselves.
I've seen several that were smart enough to be lazy when hunted with a old dog and it's a hard habit to break.
Good luck with your Cur.
