1 or 2 pups to buy for training?

What's everyone's thoughts on buying 2 pups for training? I have a 2 month old male pup now that Im really liking but there is another month old male my buddy has to sale that I would like to buy. I've always trained 1 pup at a time. Thanks for all your thoughts in advance. Have a good day.

Having 2 similar age pups at one time makes my life miserable personally.

The % of your devoted time splits in half when it comes down to getting a young dog in the woods by itself. And I'm a firm believer in staying after a young dog when they are clicking good.

I would stay with one and put all your time into it. By the end of hide season you will know if you have something with potential to make a hound or not. If not, pups are dime a dozen on this board and available in every age and color for you to start over next spring.

I have had 2 pups the same age often and yes it can be tuff. I hunt 6 or 7 days a week year round anyways so its not a big deal I just switch back n forth most of the time. I prefer females as well so when one is in heat I may still have the other to hunt if I'm lucky. the worst part is when the weather doesn't cooperate with ya.

Thanks guys for the info. I have been going back n forth for a week now trying to decide what to do. I think I'm going to stay with one for now and just see what happens.

I like to buy two at a time, they tend to ramble more when there is two, start quicker and easier. Once they start treeing need to pick your favorite and sell the other one. For me there usually becomes a favorite.

If you can identify in a reasonable amount of time one you like better you have helped your odds at finding a dog that might satisfy you some guys have a hard time letting dogs go and end up with more than they know what to do with

You will burn a pup out hunting him every night. You need 2 or 3 so that you can switch back and forth. And when you get mad at one or have to discipline it, you can leave it at home for a week to think about it. Also, your odds of getting one that you like are much better if you have 3 to pick from. Otherwise if you start one at a time, it might take you 3 years to get one that you like.

Buy it. I start all my young pups in groups running loose as young pups, they do better that way. You will have less barking in the kennel if you let them be together and they will start faster by working them together. Each one will still need individual attention. By the time they are old enough to start singling out you will have a favorite. If the other is working but just not what you are looking for sell it or give it away. If you like them both and have the time for singling out 2 young dogs go for it.
