Need help with dogs health problem?
My daughter has a dog that has a bleeding I am just going to say butt problem she has had him to the vet and he said it was about the same as bleeding abscess and gave her some pills to get the swelling down and stop the bleeding that has not helped a thing she is now worried he has cancer and will have to have him put down.
Has anyone ever had this problem with a dog before any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Carl

is this dog prolapsed meaning pushing its butt out looks like it hurts like hell or bloody stools ?
Hey Carl,
I'd get a second opinion on this one. Something doesn't sound right. Look for an AAHA certified hospital or take the dog to your closest veterinary school.

Bleeding
Not being funny, sir. Try some preparation h. Worth a shot. Also that powder meds for toenails cut to short might help bleeding
Yes preparation H was the first thing we used before even taking him to the vet and yes pooched out just like he has bleeding hemroids(spelled wrong) but no blood in stool.
6 more pills to take then back to the vet.
Can a vet take a sample and tell if it is cancer or not or will they get all the money they can from you then tell you.
Thanks to all replies much appreciated.

i have one that had real butt issues when he was younger like 3ish he is over 14 now first time took to vets all she wanted to do was castrate and made no promises it would help we did muzzle she did put on a rubber glove some jelly and pushed his butt in a hundred dollars and no real answer i invested in both muzzle and gloves prep h and pushed his butt in many times the first month he got better as time went on he still has butt issues but hasn't prolapsed in several years now !
quote:believe they can take small piece off and test it.

I had a male that had colon cancer many years ago. I took him to several vets without any luck. They all said he had worms. I told them that I knew how to do a fecal check, and I had been searching samples for a month without any sight of worm eggs.
Finally, I made the 2 1/2 hour drive to ole Doc Kelly. I walked into the examine room, and Dr. Kelly mentioned he watched me and the dog walk up to the building, and that he suspected cancer. He put on a glove and felt around. He then held a glove out to me, and told me to start at about 12:00 O'clock and rotate my finger around clockwise. He then told me I should feel a growth at 10:00 O'clock. I did.
He took out 12" of colon, and then an additional 6" two weeks later. The dog healed really well. I think he would have lived a lot longer if he wasn't cursed. The dogs was a very hard hunting dog, and about a year later he got sick. I took him back to Doc, and the dog had run a 4" stick into his abdominal cavity. After another surgery, he healed up fine. I was scared to hunt him, and waited for almost 1 year. The first night I hunted him he got sick the next day. We went back to Doc Kelly. He had run another stick into himself again. He didn't survive that time.

We got a second opinion from a different vet he said keep giving the pills that the other vet gave us and to bring him back for surgery after July 4th he said he had a lot of success with this operation but some times the other side of his butt hole would flare up later and he would need another operation.
We will let you all know how it turns out and thanks for all the advice much appreciated.
Carl
