Back tracking???
I have a hound that seems to be back trackin...if that's what you would call it ???.....been pulling up slick alot...and tonight I seen a coon in the field took her out 20 yards from the coon and it took off to the right and she went barking over to the left...and. continued tracking it left...almost as if she was running it from where it had been rather than where it was going ......what the crap..is going on here ????
Yep I would call that back tracking, grab her up and turn her the other way. Don't let her keep going back, make her take it the right way. It's gonna take some work but you can get her straightened out(if she has the mind to).

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Wait 15 minutes and the dog seems to run it the right way but drop one on a coon that just crossed a road and they seem to struggle figuring out the track.

That's what I do, before turning out I sit in the truck and wait fifteen minutes before turning the dogs out, mine never back track.

Smoking hot scent is tough to start , how many times you seen a coon cross the road and put right on it and wonder what the heck. Wait 20 minutes and turn on it and they leave screaming and slam a tree 50 yards in
