Track minded!!!!

What's the best type of dog to hunt ??? More track power or more tree power overall ?? Just curious as to what type of hounds people prefer and why !!!!

First of all the more track or more tree should come into play when your selecting the bloodlines of a young hound to train.
That depends on where your at and the amount of coon you have and how hard they are to find and put up a tree.
Once they are trained dogs, it doesn't matter as they should tree coon and do it well. If they don't perform for you and tree coon in your location, it doesn't matter too much track or too much tree. They are under performers and should be sent elsewhere.

Thanks Bruce... I've heard multiple people talking bout the two differences wasn't sure such one is better to look for in a hound

I am in an area that track dogs do better as real tree minded dogs slick to much down here. So I prefer to hunt dogs that are track minded first and tree second.

Well a track minded dogs are generally a lot more accurate when finished and they also make hunting on the frozen ground in jan and feb when the rut is on a lot more enjoyable ! Where I am you def have to have track moreso then tree !i will stick with my hard goin pups that track first tree later and only about 60 bpm they aren't show boats just solid but this last cross has shown a lot of people more speed then they have ever seen and that good noses aren't completely gone in our breed ! Now that has not came wothout some long hard early junk running in fact the male was headed for a rd one night and I had to turn the alpha to 18jusy to change his tone of his voice ! And it was on tight they can take some discipline without balling up on you either !

Potomac...what line of hounds do u have ?

This is tough question to answer. You need a track dog and tree dog. I want my track dog to never lose or quit a track. I'm not sure what is meant by "powerful tree dog" You need one that will stay. He doesn't have to bark 120 times a minute or be heard two miles away, but he has to stay treed.

Off my my partners and myself male which is secret agent man and a coon waxer female and the female was off cutter and my old old female back to bugger branch Paul pretty much her bottom side was same as old witch ! This was 3 gen top and bottom of crosses we made and they are fast fast !most accurate I have ever seen !and the whole,litter is doing the same thing course all the litter the parents and grand parent came from were very good !! We don't pay a lot of attn to papers just performance a, but drive and hunt are as hard if not harder then accuracy ! 571-233-5819 any can be hunted with the pups sire ,dam are littermates to the sire you will see all the same things ! They HAVE to track before they ever look up!
I hunt a stock of dogs that I will continue to hunt as long as they keep producing the traits that I am seeing and continuing to enjoy.
Most DO NOT just start looking up at 9-10 months old. they track before they tree. everyone wants a treedog and this and that and another.. but those woodmonsters don't live very long here, TWO LOOKIN' down will beat those woodmonsters every time! one that trails before he looks up will make a lot better track dog and I believe will be more accurate than need! Give them time and they will look up, I am not saying wait til they are 2 years old but give them time to get that wild streak out. SCH PRO BAIT, Me and my dad own her mother, Juice is reproducing that track before tree. BAIT trailed and ran a lot before she ever treed as well as many others, most would have given that up and don't look at the good points of that style like how independent they are and the wheels they have & how fast they can move.. & no, they do not spend a lot of time in one spot unless they are treed & they move around very exceptional on the ground & are very fast track dogs, they sound how one is supposed to as well!
I am hunting a pup off of the cross Joseph is talking about above (POTOMAC), & let me tell you a few things about him, he has a lot of tools just has not figured out how to use them, very good mouth and an unreal locate, moves around on the ground very good but the green messes with him a bit just because he has not been hunted much in it! He has potential to be something very above average, he has the hustle and hunt, the mouth and the accuracy, he is very quick on both ends! I can't wait to see what he is when he matures out and see if I have something to compete with at the fall 1yr old superstakes.. the littermates are doing very good as well, his sire FUGLY's BUZZ I believe is reproducing exactly what we like! He would be bred a lot more if he has won 10K but he doesnt owe us a thing but he is a coondog and producing his traits in his offspring.

I think it depends on what type of dogs you are hunting. It's hard enough to find a plott that likes to tree much less one that does it early lol. With these dogs they are trail dogs first tree dogs second. So in my opinion If I had two pups and one was only treeing early and the other was only trailing early I would put my time on the pup who was treeing young. Rule of thumb is they should trail it if they can tree it. Had to cull a lot more that wouldn't ever get on a tree than ones that treed to much sometimes.

wrong strain

Maybe your hunting the wrong strain.Never had a problem with my strain treeing for the last 30 years.
