Question

I was in my first UKC hunt with storm, it was a 4 dog cast. And the 3 dogs besides me seemed to have a real problem slick treeing, and my dog kept backing on it. I technically won the cast, being that the other 3 dogs minused out. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to keep a dog from treeing with other dogs when the coon isn't there? I've never had that much of a problem with storm, he is usually quite accurate.

yep

You have the same prob! a lot dogs have when they are packed!! sounds like your dog is treeing just because the others are!!or they are treeing because yours is!! lot dogs dont even have to smeal a thing on a tree as long as dog is looking up barking the others will join in!! for myself i cant stand those kind!!! but good luck!!

My opinion

No dog guru here bud but i would get that dog in woods by himself for a good ample amount of time and make sure hes consistently treeing coon. Hunting those hunts, dogs can still pick up bad habits from others. You still have to take time off to pleasure hunt and keep them straight. I've always been told hunting them by themselves is good for independence. Then mix in some other dogs here and there and every time he backs another dog wear him out. Im not a fan of beating on a dog, however you will get tied of walking to empty trees real quick.

NOTE: If hes treeing slick, you should be wearing the hide off of him anyhow.

Here's what I've done to fix your problem:

. Get a buddy and another dog preferably one that will tree quick and close.

. Cut the other dog loose and let it get treed.

. You walk into the other dogs tree and leash it to the tree, then cut your light off, and call your buddy and have him turn yours loose.

. Watch your dog on the Garmin if u have one, when it comes into the tree give it some electricity or a switch and a good scolding and chase it out of there.

Make sure you tie your buddy's dog up so he dog leave the tree when it see the corrections happening. Depending on your dog it may only take one time or a couple.

Yeah Cory this is the first one. I've been hunting him solo for the last month or 2 now. Just trying to make him better when he's alone, and it works. He will tree a coon, and does it in a timely manner. Doesn't like to miss either, but it seemed the he just treed on it because the other dogs did. Thanks

It's the first time he has seen other dog in a month! They are just like kids when u take em to the park, just Dunn off and do what the others do! Just hunthim with dogs and correct him. You ccan't fix problems like that hunting them alone.

Hunting your dog by himself is not the problem. The problem is when your dog is hunted with company. So the question is "Do you want your dog to pack with other dogs?". If you don't then do as Jeremy advised. If you do then you have to get him doing it the right way which is only if the coon is there. To do that you have to put him with other dogs in a setting where he can get the training at the same time, which you can't do a competition setting.
