Fine line between world class hound and Junk

Sometimes there is a fine line between a dog being a world class hound and being junk. A dog can have all the coon treeing talent there is and one or two little quirks is the difference between being able to win anywhere and nowhere. If a person can't correct the quirks with training then the dogs are worthless but if the quirks can be fixed then they may be the next world champion. The amount of time it takes to figure out if the problem can be fixed is a huge investment!

2.brains
3.coons in their trees ( when other dogs got all that crazy going on )

Would you really consider a dog junk just because it doesn't have what it takes to be a world class dog. I've seen some very nice pleasure dogs that people own that just don't hunt the hunts

World Hunts are won by dogs and handlers that get on a winning roll. How many UKC World Hunt winners came out of nowhere and where never heard from again? They got on a winning roll and rode it to the end. It's all about getting hot at the right time.

What I'm talking about is a dog can have all the tools but there is some little thing that they do that keeps them from being a big winner. You raise the pup, get it started, single it out and it is looking like it is going to make just what you want then you find it has a quirk that keeps it from even being able to win a cast.

I had an English dog years ago that had a decent nose, was fast on track, excellent in water, and was a true 90% accurate stay put tree dog. You hunt the dog with dogs it knew it looked like a million bucks. You take it with strange dogs he wouldn't hardly even go hunting. I worked on the dog and got him to at least get out of your light and tree a coon but if he would have treed 4 coons instead of 2 if he was giving his all. If something backed him he would sometimes scoot a tree or two over and tree. I'm not saying he would have been a world champion if he didn't do that but he would have certainly won his fair share of major event.
