Bravecto

Hey guys I want some info I was using nextgaurd the last two seasons but I was informed by a hunting buddy that he used bravecto and he really likes it what are you guys seeing in the two is one better then the other or is it one of those things that is preferred by some and not by other thanks for the info

Bravecto

I'm using it for 2nd year. It works excellent. I have not seen one single tick on my dogs. I used nextguard for a couple of years and it worked will also. There is one kind of tick that it only protects against for 2 months. It is cheaper to use Bravecto if you do the rebates than nextguard if you are figuring on it to last 3 months but it isn't if you are giving it every 2 months. I gave mine a dose around the 1st of January and another about the 3rd week of March. I probably will give another dose the 1st of June since it will be peak tick season.

Basically no difference other than one lasts a month and the other lasts 3 months. I'm using Simparica the year.

Im using Bravecto for the 2nd yr. and I really like it.

Posted by POTOMAC on 04-12-2017 06:30 PM:

I have used it all and it all worked fine but have been using bravecto last two years and it may not be any better then the other methods as I never saw any ticks or fleas when I was using bayer, cattle tags permithian etc,, but bravecto sire is a lot easier !!, I like it and the cheapest place I have found is lamberts vets supply is 35$ a pill and I get the 120 pd dog pills and cut them in half as to get 6 month protection out of one pill and not sure if still accurate but when I started my get told me that as long as your dog was on bravecto if the dog contacted lymes are any tick disease wile on bravecto that they would pay 100% of treatments

Posted by firebird on 04-13-2017 02:53 AM:

I do the same as POTOMAC. Cut the pill for large breeds in half. I am pleased and my friend (vet) says it kills everything. I like to think since it's ingested it's better than the topical for obvious reasons but maybe that's goofy logic.

I'll check with my Merck rep , but I'm almost sure that guarantee on Bravecto is only when purchased through your veterinarian.

I sell Bravecto, NexGard, and Simparica and I have a few thousand dogs on them now. Simparica has been the most consistent of the 3 when it comes to tick prevention. Bravecto is really good for the first 2 months, then the kill rate drops between the 2nd and 3rd month. Simparica concentration stays high for a full 30 - 40 days. They are all very good on fleas. Again Bravecto concentration seems to drop after the 2nd month so the kill rate is slower than the first 2 months. Cost wise Simparica and Bravecto are about the same per month. NexGard is the most expensive of the 3. Seresto collars are probably the least expensive of the good tick products for tick prevention. Permethrin spray is compatible with all of the systemics above and I still recommend applying a light mist across the dogs before cutting them loose.

That's a really good guarantee, especially if they will cover treatment for Ehrlichia. The price of Doxycycline has dropped significantly since Trump took office this year. Not sure it had anything to do with his policies, but it got out of hand last year and a 30 day supply was over $100. Now you can get it dirt cheap. Problem with all of these diseases is the havoc they have on our dog's health and long term health and performance effects. It's not worth the risk. I think these dogs need double protection with a systemic product with a really fast kill rate, and a topical product that will provide some repellency.

Bravecto is approved for the Lonestar Tick when given every 2 months. The reason is that the kill rate drops on Bravecto after 60 days so it takes longer to kill the tick once it takes a meal. The longer the tick is feeding, the more likely it is the dog will contract Ehrlichia. Don't risk it, use a Permethrin spray along with these systemic products. It cost less than $1 to make a bottle of permethrin spray from 10% Permethrin Farm Spray. Give the dogs a light mist across the back and sides before cutting them loose to act as a repellent. Multi Tick Prevention is the way to go.
