Ok Bluetick Men Question ???

April 14th, 1965 Hills Blue Rock made Grand Nite Champion.
Was he the first bluetick to make earn this title? If not what bluetick did?

Only two guys I know that should be able to answer you. Grayson Paul or Guy Ormiston. Possibly Dave Dean.

How about smokey River Rambler?

Posted by Ed Mauney on 04-07-2017 06:14 PM:

Good one!

I had a male dog that made Dual Grand about that time called Joe. Late Fifties and early Sixties cant remember for sure. Rambler would fit in there. I've got old Joes degree around here somewhere if I can find it I will look and see.

I have Rock alot in alot of my pedigrees he was Smokey River Sage's Sire.
Ed Mauney, You've been at this for a few years. What year did you get your first hound if you don't mind me asking?

check

Matt-- I think if you dig around in those old papers you might find that Smokey River Sage was out of HILL's Ark Blue. owned by Earl Hill. not out of Hills Blue Rock. there were a lot of good hounds from Marvil Hills Blue Rock.. one that impressed me back then was Parlin's Blue lead.

Also from Hill's Ark Blue was Riden's Blue Charlie and O.O.Grants Jargo

Riden's Blue Charlie was a darn good hound but folks kinda shyed away because he was offered for stud to folks that would breed to him for free.LOL!

First hound

Around 1963 Matt, a grade dog. Got my first registered dog about 1965 from Warren. Sister to Rambler I believe. My memory fails me more and more these days.

I should have figured it out. Alot of truth about breeding to a free stud. Guys over look them or travel along ways when the one in the next county is the the total package.
Ed, how did the grade dogs stack up to the hounds we have today? I know it would be hard to compare cause we are infested with coon in todays time.

Grade dogs

Matt I was living in a coon desert at that time. So to be fair they were pretty good. Comparable to todays hounds as far as natural ability, but you had to be willing to look at what we would consider trash. And lots of it. Combination hounds comes to mind. Ha ha

Earl Hills Ark. Blue also sired Kit, Majesty, Blue Gal, Queen(mother of Spot), and Bart. I think he has been one of the greatest studs out of all the overlooked reproducing stud hounds.
