Priorities
Why do we do what we do? If you made a list of what matters most (keep in mind what SHOULD matter most), what does it look like?
I write this as ADAM WINGLER, not as anyone else and not to be associated as anyone else.
I hunt a number of things, as I actually believe it's in my blood, and to do without it would be nearly painful. But it's not my life's #1 priority. My biggest trophies and accomplishments aren't win checks, or towers of fake brass, or anything close to that description. My biggest goal in life is to teach and guide my biggest trophies (my kids!!!) into something that respects and can be respected. To be a leader, a follower and above all a good example in everything they do, despite outside pressures. Not win at all costs, not succeed while stepping on someone else. To be just as gracious in winning AND losing. To help a brother who has fallen FIRST, not ask how he fell, HELP NOW, found out why later.
If all of this seems foreign to you reading it, then of course your priority is different and you could be at a very different stage in life and that's fine. But keep in mind we aren't all here for the same reasons, and I can assure you, with all that's in me, I didn't come here to fight nor be asked to fight. And it's a complete waste of my time to mix that in with something I enjoy and I try to use as a fun hobby to teach my kids the lessons I described above. I get to wrestle and argue (in a MUCH more professional manner than this forum) in my chosen career, so the heck if I want to bring that into something I do for fun and in front of my kids. Some of you ridiculed me a couple years ago when I asked if a nite hunt was even inviting to kids. Well, look over the past couple weeks and what's been said back and forth on here. Still think I'm an idiot? And that's not sheltering my kids, they'll learn how babies are made one day but I wouldn't first let them see how it's done. Duh. If you think I'm raising up wimps, come HERE for a hunt, I'll let my 10 year old guide you, I bet you'll give in before he does.
Anyhow, just let us (myself and my kids-and those like us) hunt and have fun. I love to joke around, pick and prod, but in words alone, on a forum, it's clearly too often misconstrued.
And so my closest coon hunting friends are Redboners! If someone wants to talk about my feral cat winning a treeing contest under this subforum, by gosh we will!!! Eli is BEYOND excited for our current and only hound we own, that STARTED HERE with HIM at the lead strap nearly as often as myself. And we ain't near done. See ya around.
only problem
Adam
GREAT post, the only problem I see is this post might very well be shared with everybody---on the main board.
I've seen young folks asking advise on the main board and know they are new to the sport and a few older fellows start saying foolishness and entertaining their cronies having fun at the new fellows sincere questions.
Keep up your great work with your ''TROPHY KIDS''==great job

Good post Adam. My twin boys are 22 years old and I never subjected them to comp hunts because of such a high amount of nonsense that goes on in them. That's pretty sad isn't it?

Thanks Hersh! But I believe you help lead the way in much of what I'm saying, so thanks to you as well.
Now Jesse, that might be true because it is true. I just wish he could drive while I sleep! And you can expect my other son next time we're up, he's been so jealous every since its ridiculous...but that boy likes his sleep way more than Eli.
And Mark we'd sure enjoy trying to keep up with Doug. Maybe you and I could peel out and let them pull the dogs off the last few trees.
And yes Travis, I will say I've been real picky on what hunts I take him too, and it's been "ok". I will re-mention though, SNRD this year turned out great for us, best multi-night hunt he's been a part of. Keep in mind I'm not so perfect, so he keeps me in line as well, ha.
