Definition of "bothering"

Who can define bothering for me? I was recently scratched for "bothering". My male dog was seen twice in about 2 minutes time sniffing a females rearend. He did not try to mount her & neither dog was barking.

The definition of "bother" in the back of a scorecard is the one u use.

I did. My opinion is that dogs smell each other all the time. I personally don't think that my dog was keeping the female from hunting. All he did was smell if that is a breding type behavior then alot of dogs should be scratched.

Unfortunately the judges "opinion" trumped your opinion .

The trigger may have been pulled on your dog a little quickly, maybe not. It is a judges call to make. From what you are saying, I would not have scratched you then, but if I continuously observed him following her around, we would have inspected the female, and if it was determined that she was not coming into season, or at least showing such, then he would have been scratched. Its a common thing for young males to do just as you described. I know it hurts to get scratched, but it isn't like it counts for any barring period as fighting scratch does. I bet if he is young, and he gets older, it will stop altogether, unless she is attracting.

Thanks Robert. I agree. If my dog had been doing it for a longer period of time I would not have questioned it, but we saw it happen for about 30 seconds then the dogs left & in about 2 minutes they returned again with him smelling her. He was scratched about 45 seconds after they showed up a second time. Lesson learned I guess, $30 @ a time.

Thanks Joey. Now I know for next time. I just wasn't sure about what was considered "breeding behavior". It seems every one has their own interpretation of the rules & how they apply them. For example I hunted with a judge once, that required that a dog be gone for 5 minutes before he would break the 15. In this most recent hunt the judge broke the 15 as soon as the dogs left our sight. It is a lesson learned for me. All I can do is try to train the dog not to smell on other dogs. Believe me, I was not happy that the dog was back @ the cast AT ALL. Thanks for you reply.

The gone for 5 minutes thing is not a different interpretation it's the wrong kennel club. That's how pkc handles it. Next time make sure they check the gyp. Just because nothing else is messing with her doesn’t mean she isn't coming in or has some sort of an infection. If it's something you have seen him do before then do what you have to and get him broke.
