Dog working track backwards

I have a young dog that started out great. Treeded a coon alone the third time I ever took her hunting for the last month maybe two she has just pretty much quit treeing..when she does it's a den. Have seen coons sitting up on my feeders she strikes and runs it good a ways either quits it or pulls up a den tree. Tried walking her the right way, sending her back off the tree. Should I cut my losses and move on or does anyone know a something to help me out...

Feeders bring in a lot more than one coon. The track she is taking away from there, may or may not be the coon your looking at. I will agree that your observation of a lot of Den Trees and coon sitting where she is going from paints a dim picture. BUT, How old is this young dog? I cut my losses with one pretty quick but I can't recommend that for someone else. I would have to check her out with another dog that is treeing some coon and she what she does on those tracks. It's march !! I got an old dog that can tree a ruff a coon as anybodys dog everybody's dog is having trouble it's dry here and coons are coming down early , early sows are already in the dens give it a month or two hunt her around water.

Are you hunting this dog alone??? Is she alone with no other dogs in the woods when she does this back tracking???? The reason I ask is because I have seen many good dogs that would run a track backwards because they were just jealous of other dogs. Young dogs are one thing, but I do not believe there is a fix once they get older.
That said, since it is a young dog just getting started it could just be she is still figuring things out and it may take a while. Usually they don't do it out of jealousy right off the bat. That comes out later and since she is young you might want to try letting her run it backwards and tie her to the tree, then let a different dog or dogs actually tree the coon and knock it out to them. Let her suffer on the leash hearing what she is missing out on. I have seen a few young dogs that had drive and get excited and just go the wrong way. What really matters is whether or not she soon starts trying to get it right and end up going the correct way.

Edit: One thing I would suggest is that at this point she is running and treeing, so I would quit with the feeders unless you have very thin coon. When it comes to tracks, there is just no substitute for a dog happening upon a single, live, wild coon out in the middle of the woods. Definitely see what she does with that situation. I will say one other thing too, I have never had any luck, especially with young dogs running coon in a lot of water. It always seemed like if a coon got completely wet, swam a creek or got out of water with more than just wet feet the dogs seemed to have trouble.

I agree with it being tough. I dont have world beaters but My hounds have been looking terrible. I do not hunt every night all night so its not entirely the hounds fault. i have a one year old pup that will beat a track up until i pull him off of it or he finds it. hes only treed a handful of times over the past two months, but the times he has treed, hes had a coon, and a couple dens. He tries extremely hard. i think when the kittens get down here in southeastern IN he will turn on, hes a ticking time bomb. Now my 3.5 yr old usually has not many issues treeing a couple coon. hes been struggling big time pullin up blanks and dens.
