Serious question
For the breeders or those who try several pups per yr or so, from different bloodlines. Do you guys/gals feel that the crosses you make or buy pups from are improving the breed or do you honestly think that a lot of people are just breeding for whatever reason it might be. What I'm asking is simple when you make a cross or look for a pup to buy are you looking for something better?

I feel there's a lot of people just breeding to breed to keep there names threw generations on papers because 20 years ago they owned there best dog of there life and they gotta keep it in the papers somewhere....all awhile there hoping to eventually get something as good as they had 20 years ago.....
News flash! If ya ain't got it in 20 years what makes you think you will now by breeding lower quality dogs trying to accomplish it?
I will only breed dogs that have earned there stay hear and proven them selves....1 of the first bars to pass is to be better than and show qualitys above there parent ( mom or dad whichever I bred) and to be better then there parent...I also look at litters there out of and past reproducing generations....the best hound in the world ain't much after they've accomplished all they can but can't reproduce better than themselves....just like I feel ability is genetic and passed on I also believe so is the genetics to reproduce....keep an eye on the reproducers list for a few years and you'll start seeing a lot of dogs on there who's moms grandmas and grandpas were or are on.... just my opinions that don't mean much but those are my thaughts and theories I go by for not till I find any reason to go a difrent route!
I'm no breeder and I have no desire to "try" a bunch of dogs year around. I seriously doubt there is anyone out there that is not "looking for something better." I also agree that a lot of breeding takes place to try and keep old so and so's bloodline going. For some strange reason many people believe the dogs will get better with each generation. Those are the ones that breed just because their female is in heat. Both are the "breeders" I want to steer clear of, but you just don't always know.
All that said, I do believe the dogs are better today than ever. There will always be people that are too picky and there will always be people that don't have a clue what a good dog is or is supposed to be doing at the time. I bought three puppies, all of different breeding, in 2014 and I am tickled pink with all three. Twenty years ago when I bought three puppies I ended up culling at least one of them, sometimes two. I like to think I am a better trainer/handler these days too, but good puppies to start with make a big difference.
i am always looking for the next best 1 weather i buy or breed it. it seems like i am always working with a pup.
..
Thank you guys/gal for the replies. So it does seem that more pups make keepers nowadays more so than in the past?

I feel
There is many breeding just to sale pup's I see people with top female's all the Time posting pictures of there female and ped and then they will make mention of this male are another male try see how many they can get interested in a pup for a premium price I think if you are breeding just to try to sale a pup your breeding for the wrong reason.Iv bought several pup's over the years from different folks and different bloodlines and have had very few that turned out to suit me I will never buy another pup unless it has a ped full of reperducers and titled dogs and will also prefer that it's parents are doing something in other KC
