Yadkin River jeff
I believe he was the key to the Yadkin River dogs to many great dogs with him as the common denominator.
He is not only the key to the Yadkin River dogs but you will find him in about 95% of the dogs that are being hunted today.
Every time I raise a young dog out of the Yadkin River line and it takes a bad track out drifting 200 to 300 yrds at a time and ending up with a coon when the other dogs struggle I think it came from him.
I am no expert on the line but I have read a few peds and the name I see a lot is Abbotts Yadkin River Cruise.
I hunted yadkin river line for years. Yes Jeff is the one you see ,. And Jeff and wrights pistol Pete were the backbone of that line. I've hunted and dealt with Jim Meeks several times. Bred to champ 3 times. And hunted and bred to Chico , as well . Good line. But not out there like it used to be. Not bred like these dogs.

Randy I am with you on that one I guess I am telling my age when it comes tree time I like a tree dog but man I love a dog on a bad track that shakes loose from the other dogs and it ain't even close how far they are out in front of the other dogs when they get treed this blood is more consistant about producing it then any other I have ever followed. I would rather tree one hard running coon than four popups.
Yadkintar, I would love to have another one that could move a track like that. Had two, best one I lost in a cave. Have a nice young dog now out of Mafia, but he has to have a running track to move like that.

Yea I have people say it's to hot , dry , wet, ect those dogs it did not matter we would be in those ceder brakes in July and August and it would be so hot in 15 minutes you were soaked but them dogs could push a coon and make it climb ole granny and her two littermates were that way but her and Macy could not handle boomer ole boy bought boomer called he said I don't know what this dog is doing he strikes with the other dogs and just leaves there with somthing but when we find him he will have a coon treed and lots of times the other dogs end up with him lol I told him welcome to owning your first real track dog he did not have a clue lol.
Yadkin
I've hunted with a few like this out of sailers bred dogs. Can't find em any longer. I believe they also go back to same early dogs. No excuses necessary with those dogs.
Nothing could run a track on water and swamps like them old tight bred yadkin river dogs.

Sure would be nice to have a dog I didn't have to make excuses for. But I haven't seen one in a while.

Yadkin River Champ's ****
Mr. Meeks used to talk highly of the Champ dog. Does anyone know what type of dog Jill was? Wasn't Champ out of Jeff and Jill?
Champ was out of Jeff and Tar River Jill.
Jill was out of Sundown Hank x Tar River Mindy and grandsires were RiverBend Flag on Bottom and Bellars Indiana Shep on top.
Jim has told me several stories on Champ and there is no doubt he was a freak. Said he would give allot of mouth on track and the hotter he got he would tighten up, ran to catch and did catch a bunch on the ground, said one night he caught 3 different coon on track.
Would just wear other dogs down trying to keep up with him in the swamps.

The last track I got granny on last night was bad cold we just had a pup with her it took an hour and 15 minutes went almost 3/4 mile and she just had to walk it up at the start but the Yadkin River dogs have the guts , drive and nose to finish what they start right next to the water it is powder house dry here she is 10 yrs old and still has more heart than dogs half her age ohh and she had the coon on the end.
Yadkintar
I remember hunting with Tom after Kyle Chase bought him, he was good. Kyle raised Roselle out of Tom and bred Roselle and got Jeff. I hunted with Jeff until Kyle sold him to Meeks. Kyle Chase certainly contributed his share to this line of dogs. Dave

I do too right now it's tuff hunting around here I think the Yadkin River line exceeds in unforgiving conditions maybe won't fill the scorecards up but what coons they find when they are thin they finish their tracks with the coon in their tree.
March is about my least favorite month to hunt.
