Dog quit hunting

I have a 7 year old redbone male. I have had him for about 6 years always been a good coondog and a pleasure to hunt. But this season he has turned around and has lost all interest in hunting. The last coon he treed was in September a few days before season came in since then he hasn't done much of anything. I took him to the vet and he tested positive for Ehrlichia. He has been on antibiotics and seems to be feeling a lot better but still doesn't want to hunt. Has anyone seen a good coondog just go bad? Any ideas on what to do?

Erlichia saps the energy out of them. Give him some B 12 or something high in iron and have patience. Make sure that you are giving him enough Doxy. Google the recommended dosage. Also start him on an iodine supplement. Erlichia can sometimes suppress thyroid function.

Thanks. I had his ears checked at the vet couple weeks ago. He said they looked good.

At least that is what I have experienced. Bonne wasn't the same for a couple of years. It took Wendy a couple of years. Wilma still hasn't fully recovered and it has been 2 years now. Good luck with him.

It took Winnie almost 2 months on doxy before she started wanting to go again. Like Richard said have patience.

I sure appreciate all the help guys. I will keep up the antibiotic and start on B12 and wait and see what happens.
