HTX hunts
How do you go about getting a dog HTX hunting champ? I know very little about it and was wondering if it could be rigged or is this an honest thing?

Anything can be rigged. But these are designed not to be. Have to be judged by 3 different judges. Have to run and tree a coon and not get 3, I believe, faults during that hour of hunting. I believe and wish more were around here. Also wish they would, somehow, use it on the reproduction stats. JMO

I don't think you'll find many HTX dogs that can't tree a coon.
You can find all the info you need on the HTX hunts by following this link

This is meant to be a more laid back experience than the competition hunts and attract some of the pleasure hunting crowd. I personally enjoy these hunts and have always seen them run fairly and smoothly.
You got to hunt your dog 3 times for 1 hour each time and get 3 "passes" to get the HTX title. There is no limit on how many times you enter, to get those 3 passes.
It definitely can be rigged just like a senior cast or 2 dog backyard feeder bucket hunt run from someone's bedroom. The HTX is like any title and only means as much as the people behind it and HOW it was done.
I'd say go to one and if you see something thats not done up to par, just don't go back and know that any HTX's coming out of that club don't mean anything. There is really nothing else you can do.

By all means do what you think is right.
The participants can also help make sure things are done right but in my experience if both the participant and inspector are inexperienced/don't know the rules/don't care, then you can have an issue. But its been rare and if the club is supervising whats going on, then things won't get too off track.

RE. HTX
The reason I ask was I bought a dog a year ago that is HTX champ. and he has not showed me much yet. I tried him out and caught coons with him and he has went backwards every since I have hunted him after that. Slick treeing, cant move a track acts like a young dog starting out and he is 8 years old.

hunted up?
I also think an HTX title only holds to how well some dogs are hunted up. Ive hunted with some that are HTX Titled that are coondogs 100% HTX pass. Then I've hunted with some HTX titled dogs that could obviously tree a coon, but absolutely not make an HTX pass! I would say that hound earned that title two years ago when he was being pushed in the woods and was hunted up. Two years later, not hunted up much, lazy, rusty, etc.
With that being said, i am sure there are many HTX titled dogs that never in there life hunted an hour and made a legit HTX pass.
