Pretty good population down there you can get in some places where they are thick but I've went down there every year they have had it down there and never had a terrible night of hunting

you will enjoy yourself for sure. weather can get cold, so bring some warm and mild weather clothes. funny thing about the south's winters, they can be in the teens today, and 70's tomorrow. come prepared.

I went last year. We scored on 6 coons on Fri night and never saw a coon on Sat night. Like any major hunt, it all depends on the guide you draw.

There is a good coon population in the winter classic area; some better than others, the same as any place a big event is held. In previous years, most casts would score on 3 coons or more. Casts I have guided have scored on from one coon to 9 singles. A lot of coon teeing depends on th e dog work! This year, the hunt falls during the full moon cycle, and I believe this could effect the scores some. Normally, the weather is pretty nice by mid February. Good hunting, Jr. Steelman

I am sure the hunting is like it is anywhere in the USA. Its where you go, and the conditions that dictate how you do, along with the type hound you are hunting. A sorry one will always be just that, and the good ones, because of the above, can look sorry at times.

I have been a moh at the satellite clubs since the classic moved from GA., and the scorecards I have seen from there are like most everywhere else we go. Some great scores, some not. Conditions change from Friday to Saturday, or vice versa, and good goes bad, or reversed. Overall good hunting and the numbers that are shown in entries kind of confirms that most folks think it is worth the trip. Entries have rose every year since it was moved, and this year, for the first time, the MS. deer season is out, and all that durn clay will be out of the civic center, and hopefully with it the dust issues we have struggled with in the past. I look for holding the event 2 weeks later on the calendar to really help grow and be a better event for the people in the future. By the way; entry wise, it is the UKC's largest one weekend event.
