Great unit but only lasts 5 or 6 house. Is this normal?

What kind of batteries. Garmin makes a rechargeable battery pack for them. If your near the truck you can plug in and get a boost.

I love my backlight high and I don't know how bright you have yours set or how long you have it set on. An adjustment to one or both of those settings might help. The next option would be to get an extra battery pack and keep them both charged.
