RIP - Larry Wortinger, Galesburg, Michigan
If you just started coonhunting in the last 15 years you will not know Larry Wortinger from Galesburg, Michigan. Even if you have been hunting 20+ years, chances are you did not know Larry unless you hunted the local hunts of southern Michigan or National Redbone Days. Larry was one of the early members of the Wolverine State Coonhunters Club in Bellevue, Michigan, and also a 30+(?) year member of the National Redbone Coonhound Association. Larry passed away at his home Monday, November 14th.
I owe Larry a great deal for where I am today. When I was just out of high school I went on a pleasure coonhunt with some school buddies and it was pretty much a disaster. But it interested me enough to seek out Larry Wortinger who was our local coonhunter. The very fist night I hunted with Larry, after drinking much coffee and listening to stories at the kitchen table when we were done, he had given me a second hand dog box, a wheat light and a milk crate full of coonhound magazines. That did it.
I hunted with Larry for many years and also had his trust to hunt any of his Charleston Kennel Redbones on nights when he could not hunt. He introduced me to many people in the sport who I would work closely with through the years to come. Larry very much enjoyed his hounds and the people in the sport. He was a good man with a good soul. I will miss him.

I hadn't heard that name in a long time, when I first started comp. hunting I meet him at Bellvue and he sure was a awful nice guy.
Prayers to his family
