? Bruce C. or ? Birdseye vs HuntOnyx ?
Bruce, I see that Garmin has NC preload Birdseye now.
Are these preloaded maps the same detail as a user-loaded Birdseye map when used on a Alpha ?
Have you used or saw HuntOnyx maps on the Alpha ?
I got a free trial on my phone for HuntOnyx & really like the map clarity, detail & boundary features, but I suspect the Alpha will not be as clear & detailed.
Thanks, David

I'm not Bruce but I've had HuntOnyx for two years and I just bought the Michigan card with the preloaded Birdseye. There is a big difference. Bruce stated on another thread that he thought the new cards used the middle of the three definition choices available when you download your own Birdseye. I would agree with that, it isn't nearly as highly defined as HuntOnyx. The boundary lines are a very fine black line that you have to really concentrate to see them. It does give ownership but not the acreage. I don't regret buying the card but considering HuntOnyx is $30, the $80 for the card is a headshaker. I'll be keeping my HuntOnyx.

This is the first I've heard of huntoynx. Looked at the website and saw the state cards and the regional cards for $100 each. It had a screen that showed an aerial photo that was shaded by land owner but it was hard to tell the quality of the aerial. If I understand you right Jim you think it is a clearer image than the mid-grade Birdseye ?
How we get it Jim? I have a phone app to tell me owners and stuff anyhow.

HuntOnyx
I got the HuntOnyx app on the phone & also on desktop.
Side by side with the Alpha (Birdseye) the detail on the maps is much better on the phone.
The app is $30 but the micro sd card is $ 100 per state
I just wondered if anyone had the card in their Alpha & was the detail better than Birdseye & did the Alpha work exactly the same with the HuntOnyx map card installed
Thanks for replies
Jim, Do you have HuntOnyx on your Alpha?

,
Jim to clarify a few things and I need your help on this one.
I had the hunt onyx card for FL but there was no birdseye on it. 24K TOPO and land owner information. Does your hunt onyx card have birdseye.
The Birdseye you download yourself has 3 choices of clarity.
Low, medium and high. In the real world out there of mapping there are probably a lot more levels of clarity. Not sure what the technical term is for different levels and if every mapmaker works off the same level of clarity. I do know the Hunt View cards are more than the middle range. Just not sure what level they are and by information I am getting they are not the highest level compared to what you download yourself. They don't have them for FL yet so I don't look at one often. They looked a lot better than the medium level but perhaps not the highest level either.
I think we are talking about one card with birdseye and comparing it to another card without birdseye. Is that correct jim or does both have birdseye.
The hunt onyx cards I had were $99 and no birdseye and the App for your phone was $29

The hunt stand app is free on phones and has all landowner info if that helps anyone.

Bruce, If I read you right The ONX card you had did NOT have satellite, just TOPO.
I went back to Huntonx website & I do believe their chip is just Topo, but I have sent inquiry
If that's the case, my ? are mute, as the aerial view was what I wanted, & that layer may not be available on their chip
Thanks for reply

My research shows you will find that to be the case David. I sold those cards for FL to many guys down here a couple years ago. I never saw birdseye on it. Yes they were clear and neat and looked nice but no birdseye. All things change and I will be interested in what posted here about birdseye being on their cards.
The one thing we have to remember is the amount of information you can download to a card. The more information on the card the less the detail has to be for it to all fit. Yes Technology is rapidly changing and what is wrote on this subject today will probably not be true next year or the year afterwards.

I wasn't even aware that HuntOnyx had cards, what I have is the HuntOnyx phone app that cost $30 per year. The clarity for that app equals Google Earth, way better than even high def for Birdseye. That is what is on my phone.
The Garmin Michigan card that I have in my Alpha appears to be medium Def and shows property boundaries, ownership, but not acreage.
Really, to me the best thing about the new Garmin card is not having to downlold your own maps. Because if word gets out that you downloaded your own, every buckethead in the county is at your door wanting you to download theirs.
