That's one group Donny didn't call out during this process.. wonder what his views on the Amish are?? Lol
I bet if he had lost Ohio a wall would be being built around Holmes county as we speak!
That's interesting. Growing up our community was strictly forbidden from voting.
Did that change. Did the Amish really come out and vote? Heck if you got the Amish voting there's enough of them to carry Ohio and Pennsylvania. Heck there's a bunch in Illinois too. Be a good thing if they all start voting.
R Amish don't vote either, but there are different sects and I read the ones in Lancaster and someother counties in PA aren't as strict and they voted.
Do they pay taxes?
Yes they pay taxes.
They are however exempt from Obamacare and social security.
im with mr knepp the amish don't vote i know a few over in ohio & indiana don't think the bishop would allow any voteing and still be in the amish church sure thing to get shun
I'm not sure if the Amish around here vote much either. I have never seen any at a polling place. Mark, is it true that whatever the Bishop, ( I hope that's the right word ), allows for a specific community is what goes?

The bishop makes the rules to some extent. Most of the time the community will vote on rule changes. If the bishop doesn't like the rule change it usually won't make it to a vote. You know, politics. And in return if a church member doesn't like the rules they just move to a church they agree with. Simple life really.
quote:you are right my buddy roman out in indiana puts in acres of corn but works for his father he has combines and lot's of equpemnt he can harvest this yr then he doesn't know what to do because his church doesn't allow equiment but his dad went to florida bought a big farm join a settlement down there they was allow to use equipment so he could farm on his farm indiana but roman lost his mother& dad 12 hrs apart last summer last i talk to him he didn't know what he's gonna be able to do next spring

The Mennonites sure turned out to vote, we don't have Amish just a ton of Mennonites & their big black chromed out trucks.
A family rents the pasture for cattle, never seen old David worked up over an election like this summer. First time most of them voted, took 5 trucks because the women also went to vote. He was so proud.

The Amish voted in Tn. Several friends couldn't wait to get to there. The taxi guys were busy.
