IBD - weight loss - diarrhea
I've got a young walker hound (going on 2yo) and its been a constant battle with weight loss and diarrhea. Back a couple generations I know there was another dog that had some digestive issues. I've been to the vet numerous times and haven't really come up with much. He had a major infestation of worms about a year ago but that is cleared up. I have him on a low fat high protein diet now and the diarrhea is pretty well cleared up but the dog is not gaining weight. Does anyone have any experience or advice with this issue.
Have u tried ...."Raw diet" .....?
nope I have not tried that
R u close to Milwaukee?
If u r check out the Asian market on 27th street (west side) north of college Ave . next to a dog food box store....pets Mart or sumthing like that......u can get just about any raw organ meat u can afford.
I spend 30$-50$....a month on that stuff .works !
i'll give it a try
Try canned pumpkin. Dogs like it . It's cheap and it will work. I just put a couple of heaped tablespoons mixed in their dog food. I buy the canned 100% pure pumpkin. Works for diarrhea. You should get about 3 feedings per 15oz can. I think it is worth a try.
Thanks for the ideas. I've switched this dog to a higher protein lower fat diet awhile back and that more or less cleared up the diarrhea but I need to get some weight on him. I'm sure I could find some venison in the bottom of the freezer or a quick stop at the locker plant for some organ. How about the pumpkin? Will that put some weight on him?
It should clear up the diarrhea and he should gain weigh naturally.
Agree. Had good results with pumpkin too after a friend suggested it.
Cracklins
If you can find a person or place that makes (Renders) Lard from pork fat. Get the Cracklin's. Feed a hand full of these with every meal on top of his feed. This will put weight on fast and make his coat shine.
If fat gives him diarrhea then maybe it wouldn't be good. I don't know.
