What's wrong with her??

Ok guys got something going on and it's driving me crazy. Hunted my female all year last year was her first real season she treed me a ton of coon and looked good, but the last little bit she just hasn't been treeing many coon at all bunch slicks and is not like her she just looking stupid, she still seems like got energy and hunts good but to me some nights don't hunt as good as used to. She just isn't same dog as she was. She did get mastitis a few months ago and really hasn't been same since idk whats wrong with her but it's depressing cause she is a way nicer dog then showing. Any inputs guys thanks

Lyme disease maybe?

Posted by yadkintar on 11-06-2016 09:51 PM:

You had her checked for heart worms ? If not that put her on a good dog food like pro plan or victor and a good vitamin regiment when you see her bouncing in the pen like a kangaroo you will know it's time to hunt her and I know sombodys going to say thyroid I don't think that's it.

As far as the slicks go,.... ive been wondering if this dry ground is making it harder on these hounds. We have still treed some coons but have noticed an increase in slicks.

It may not be slick to her, young dog, could be squirrel, mice, owl, some scent she may be distracted by, nothing some mild correction might fix ?

my dog did this too and people say it's the sophomore jinx. my was unreal accurate then around 2 he was slick treeing idiot for a couple months then one day he was back too normal again.

There yah go. I'll take that explanation 10 times over the " my dog needs a vet cause he's slickin" bs.
A guy has a dog puking, won't eat, hair falling out and loses 40 pounds and the guy will be on here asking what to do but if that dog makes 10 slicks in a week, he's off carrying the dog to a vet. Smh.

my females usually do that when I brag on them or,
they are getting ready to come in heat.

take to running around acting braindead,
you either bragged on them or coming in heat or both.

I'm not using the sticking treeing for a result of taking to the vet I was just simply asking what could be the reason the bitch ain't no slicling treeing dog so when I walk to 7 trees and see 1 coon yeh I'm going get concerned, I haven't dealt with thyroid issue or Lyme issues so have no clue but have heard it's a big factor in it so therefore she will be going to vet tomm thanks

C'mon Jim. You know that Thyroid is the key to having coons in trees

Just for fun, someone google "what is the most over diagnosed condition in dogs."

Let us know what you find.

Slicking....

Lyme Disease, Thyroid, Heart Worms.......LMAO....!!!
Excuses.....simple as it gets.
Hunt the hair off her, correct her when needed, praise her when she needs it.
Don't knock a ton of coon out to her.....

Young dogs don't have everything figured out and in the beginning many of them do a lot of things right. Then the corruption sets in. All the things they have experienced seem to overwhelm them. Some get back on track and some don't. The further you let them get off track the harder it will be.
You ask how is that. One, for example is to stop hunting them for a while. Especially if you think weather conditions may be part of the problem. Hunt them differently and even back up to perhaps hunting them like they never saw a coon before. Never easy with these hounds. You have to stay focused on the good you saw in the hound when it was young. If you saw it and know it is in there then be creative and work on bringing the good back. That isn't accomplished by just turning the dog loose and doing the same wrong things over and over again. All the time your doing this you have to be honest with yourself on if the dog will ever come back. Remember it was good because it didn't know enough to be bad. Now it knows enough to make life miserable for you. You have to know enough to return that misery. That is when things will move forward again.

I had the same kinda thing with my little female. It was the underbrush i believe ive seen this happen with others. I put her up for a bit she come out of it. Looked real good in the spring and early summer then she started coming up short. Mine lost her fire but its came back in the last month or two.

That's it right there. When one is struggling set them up to succeed.
