Just a thought but I would enjoy seeing more on the smaller hunts, just pick a random club that sends in pictures and post them in the bloodlines. Maybe include a small write up about the club and the winners from that event. It would give some of the people who don't go to the bigger hunts a little exposure. I stopped my subscription because I hated flipping through stud ad after stud ad, might just be me but I want to read about different hounds and see what's going on at other clubs, not just which stud is up for breeding.

Timothy Ball! He's the Don King of coonhounds.

I like the idea of contacting an officer from a random club, and having him or her suggest a random club member for an interview. It could be someone that's done a lot for the sport, done a lot to promote a breed, or just a colorful club member that everyone seems to have a story about. Interview a hard hunting kid, or have a club vote on who's their hardest hunter and give them a call. There's a lot of good hard hunters out there that deserve a couple minutes in the spotlight.

There's also the light builders, boot makers, and equipment sellers. I'd sure read an article about Bruce Conkey and how his business has evolved, or how Reggie built Valley Creek. Lots of folks nowadays don't even know who Bill Boatman was or how Dane Phillips revolutionized the light industry. There are lots of good stories waiting to be told if you think about it...

how about a good break down on how the hounds have changed through the years , hunt , tree style , track style , you no what im getting at , you hear more talk about how the hounds have changed than anything but you never read much about it other than on here ..

How about making a section in the bloodlines for the clubs to write a news letter about the clubs happenings, winners, news and so on. I belive you'd sell more subscription if us smaller guys had a chance to be mentioned or a small picture of the winners.

I second an interview with T Ball and maybe one with Farnk Giddings unless he has already done one.
Years back, there was an interview with Bellar and that was great reading. I wish I still had that one.

You get me Russ Beller's phone number and let me do the rest.

Frank Gidding's was covered a few years ago for the Walker Issue, Tell Sackett was on the cover of the issue.

I really like the ideas all! Please keep them coming!

Per the club ideas. I've had issues with clubs not responding back. It gets frustrating when you know there's good stories they could tell and share, but they have no desire to correspond back.

That would be cool, when we had akc hunts we sent one to the cooner everytime. What's really neat is when a young hunter placed,he got his picture and name in print, and it really fired them up about the sport.

Seems like CB could fill a couple pages worth a month with club news from around the country. It's so easy these days most can be done right on our phones with a quick email. I belive it would help the sales of subscriptions and give us something new to read. Heck might bring new ideas to areas of the country and help turn outs at our clubs! It's a win win you ukc!

I would love to read an article on Gene Hicks or Jeff Nelson on what they have done for the B&T breed and what they think of the dogs that started their lines VS. the dogs they have today and what has changed good or bad...

I say have a monthly article about some good ole boy or gal that hunts because they love it may comp hunt or may not. Just coonhunters and their story.

Posted by DAVE H on 10-19-2016 01:09 AM:

I would like to see a "Where are they now" section it would be neat to see where the folks that were movers and shakers ten or twenty years have gotten to and history of the dogs in the pedigrees of today's new generation of dogs.

PUP TRAINING

How about an article each month on a pup from each breed from one of the top 10 reproducers and a nice gyp? Maybe do updates on 3 of the pups each month? Who got them, how they socialized them, basic handling, running loose or not, what age they lay drags or use the net and scent, turn loose coon or not, feeder buckets or not, hunt where plenty of coon or not, what point they enter a night hunt or not, do they go by age or maturity of pup and what it's showing them, ect.. It would take people being dedicated and staying involved to get you updates on the pups every other month but I feel would make for great reading about the different way each pup was raised up and handled and trained or exposed to the Sport of Coon Hunting.

Bloodlines

There should be an article about Robert Hitt and Carson Jones. Just to see what changes they have seen through the years, combined they have about 100 years of coon hunting experience. Would be interesting. Seriously these two guys have a lot to offer and have been around the block road harden and put away wet. Heck look at them.

Laura,

Winston Aaron would be a good choice. I don't recall any in depth interviews or stories on him. While I never meet him, I understand he is a wealth of information regarding the walker breed and what different dogs brought to his strain of dogs.

ideas

I always enjoyed reading the legacy series, it would be neat if that came back. Reports and pics of hunts at the local levels. Maybe more hunter interviews, and something like an up and coming spotlight on new hunters doing well in comp hunts.

Larry, I'll add him to my list!

fdcooner - I'll forward that to my editor!

It seems a good chunk of people would like to hear from the local clubs. Maybe for those that have suggested it, please contact your local clubs' officers and tell them to contact CB and tell them that they would be interested in contributing to such a section in the magazine.

I would love to see a collection of all the old Tim Ball adds.

Tim had some gravel putting eyes out and ear drum busting dog adds. If they let him be himself, it would be great reading.
