Question - Dog Going Blind
Does anyone have experience with a dog going blind over night?
This dog had been heartworm tested negative and was on Ivermectin ever since, then recently diagnosed with adult heart worms after noticing a lack of energy and a cough.
The vet gave us Doxycycline to use orally for a month as the first stage of heart work treatment. A day after starting on the doxycycline, the dog went blind in both eyes. Her eyes aren't milky, just extremely dilated pupils. The vet says the medicine wouldn't cause this to happen and to keep her on the medication. He also said he can't figure out what is causing blindness and that I needed to take her to a University vet to have her eyes tested.
Can anyone provide feedback on any similar experience? Everything I read indicates there is little to no chance for the eyesight to come back.
Thanks in advance.

I have never had one to go blind like that and that quick, If the dog never had any eye problems before you started giving the Medication it is a pretty good bet that is the cause of the problem, She may Have Allergic Reaction To Medication, If she is and they figure that out she may get her Eye Sight back although if it goes prolonged she may lose it for good .
blindness
Get ahold of Dr. Hallada on Redbone site. If he don't know what it might be, I'd bet he can come up with the answer. Been around dogs all his professional career as far as I know. Take care, Ron.

Glacoma? Have test run for glaucoma asap. Have a jack Russell that lost both eyes to glaucoma. Lost one overnight keep on human glaucoma meds after that ,but eventually ( 2-3 years ) she lost the other eye. Bulging eye is dead give away for glaucoma. Dave
