stitches and staples??? What do you think?

Got done putting 30 staples in my walker female on Saturday and began some deep thinking. I know many guys that measure their dogs ability by the number of scars on its body. So, are scars a sign of grit or a sign of slowness or even stupidity?

I know there is a fine line between all of that, but just curious as to everyone's thoughts. Should a dog catching a bear on the ground be quick enough to stay away from scars or is it the grit that keeps them piling in after the damage?

Should a good bear hound ever get torn up? What are your thoughts?

it happens to all good ones eventually. a lot of times its the cheerleaders standing behind the good dogs that get them caught, good ones baying tight, bear runs a dog when they go to move they turn into one of the dogs just standing behind cheerleading. Sometimes they just get caught every so often you hear of dogs getting cut up on bear all by themselves but not usually.

If a dog goes without getting tore up at some point, it's probably not putting pressure on the bear. They have to have a good mixture of grit and brains, enough grit to make that bear wanna tree and enough brains to know when they're gonna get hurt bad. Usually you don't find too many with that mixture. But I've rarely seen a "good" bear dog that didn't have at least one scar, seen some pretty sorry ones that skated by without them though.

Ive seen one dog that never got tore up. One bear dog, not just a hound. She was an all around good dog, the kind you hear stories about but they dont make anymore. She was the kinda dog that was NOT gonna get tore up, but she made a many a bear tree in her time. Most any dog thats doin its job is gonna have a scar or two on it, then you have the suicidal ones that push the issue a little too much.

staples and stitches

Owned a male dog just died last year 13 years old was on 151 killed bear ran his first bear and treed with another nine month old pup saw him catch bear in the face saw him bay four pound bear by himself saw him tree and took bear by him self saw him with as many as twenty dogs but he was never cut up or even hit they I can recall in an 18 month period lost 9 very good dogs but he was better would rig from truck to tree yet he never got broke up or hurt I have is son and he is a walking vet bill get cut and hurt all the time by his self with 2 or 3 or a hundred when he comes out 9 times out of 10 he neeeds a staple or something so I don't know if some are smart or lucky and others stupid or unlucky but for certain if you bear or hog hunt more often than not some of them are bound to get it it comes along with the hunt
