Tractor Supply and Parvo shots question

A local vet said giving pups five-way from Tractor Supply was the same as not giving them one at all. I have, in the past, used their shots without any problems whatsoever. Was wondering if anyone else used them, and were there any issues???? Thanks!!!

ive had two people tell me they have had problems with shots from farm stores not sure both were TSC. A lady that used to work there told me that when the shots came in off the truck they werent cold like they were supposed to be. I started buying mine from the vet office and havent had trouble in years. A guy i know bought his at the farm store and lost a whole litter of pups last year not saying thats what caused it but Im not taking the chance. I have 11 2 week old pups right now.

TSC

My wife used to manage at TSC. She said sometimes the truck comes in and it is the next day before the vaccines hit the cooler. She told me never to buy them there. I order mine from Jeffers and they come still cool in a ice pack. I order extra pack.

All i can say is trust where you buy your shots, I have seen bad shots come from different places and some was big name suppliers, keeping them cold is the key problem most of the time .

Posted by POTOMAC on 09-13-2016 06:57 PM:

Lambert vet supply ship them to your door on ice !!! Shots are not as neccesary to stay cold. As much as they used to be from what I have been told and I was also told they avg about 40% good from anywhere you get them from a top lab! Not sure I jst get them from lambert and all pups have been fine !! As I said they will deliver to your door and cheaper then tsc

I always take a hand cooler with an ice pack in it when I go get my shots. I buy from a local feed store and don't have any problems. Seen people buy them and throw them in the seat and give them the next day. They are the ones cussing the shots.

I've always used TS ones and have had no issues, so far. They have raised the price considerably, so I've started getting them from a local horse supply store that ships them with cold packs.

i lost two litters acouple of years ago from there shots at tsc

Posted by POTOMAC on 09-14-2016 01:12 AM:

Bottom line any and all shots are only as good as the person or people that have handled them before you !!! No one place is 100% safe !, the people at lamberts have told me numerous times that although it is best to be cool still when you receive them and carry them it is not as critical as it used to be !! So with all the posts that have been written the bottom line I think your best place is a place where there is less chance of human error !!direct ship to your door I feel is safest

Distemoper and Parvo Shots

I have lost a few pups over the years to Parvo. My vet whom I have used for several years always told me that I needed to get my shots from a vet, and he would tell me that it didn't matter wheather I got them from him or not. I just kind of figured that shots were shots. Two years ago I had a litter here and ad done sent the pups to their new home. Three of them were close by. All three came down with Parvo. One day they were barking and playing and the next day they were dead. The vet checked them and said it was like they had never had a shot. They didn't have any ammunity in their bodies. I had gotten the shots from a farm and garden place near by. they were a few dollars cheaper than at the vet. I'll never make that mistake again. From now on I'll go to the vet and get my shots.

!!!

If you've ever seen a beautiful classy 6 week old puppy have a seizure, caused by bad shot you would never buy from a farm store again !!!! Your not saven but a few bucks anyway, so why take the risk ? I did an got by but i lost 2 the same day, morning after i'd gave shots. Found the pups during my morning feeding, one died on the way to vet office the other at the office. Never again for me pups are way to expensive to lose lile that!!!!

Posted by selina1 on 09-14-2016 02:08 AM:

I also buy from Jeffers. Never had an issue since 1981.

Taking a pup to the Veterinarian to get its shots is not fool proof,if a pup is carrying the Virus in its system the pup may show no signs of the Virus until you give the shot then it will come out full blown even if the shot was not bad,as for your question no i would not buy shots at Tractor Supply myself.

Wow!!!! I heard of someone losing a litter to parvo just a couple of days after giving them shots from TSC. He let them get hot, and believe the shots actually gave them the disease. Then the vet made the comment about getting the shot from a farm supply store was the same as not giving a shot at all. I have a couple of dogs that need their shots, so I'm going to the vet. Thanks for the input. Very informative!!!

The vet I use sells them for 10 and will sell and give the shot for 15.

Vaccines are highly regulated and are supposed to maintain their potency after being a room temp for several days.

Most pups carry immunity from their mother until 6 to 9 weeks, sometimes up to 12 weeks. The vaccine will not take affect until the mothers immunity drops. This is why it is recommended to give the pups shots until 16 weeks for maximum protection.

wish i was lucky....

and could give my own vaccines. I have a problem with that as far as my vet goes. he doesn't sell them. you must pay a $65.00 office call first thing....and it adds up real fast. yesterday...examine pup. take stool sample. worm meds....no vacinations...$125.00!!! and must return in 2 weeks. dread that bill. but I like my vet, I trust him, and have had him for 26 years. I have learned "you get what you pay for."

I was recommended this buy my cousin who has raised and does raise ALOT of litters . Its not a 5-way, its straight parvo vaccine and first one given. I have had great luck with it as well. They carry a 5-way also. Great place to deal with , great prices and great product !!!
