Benadrill for dogs

Is this safe for dogs, how much do you give them? Every Sept & Oct she has a hard time with tracking and I would like to try something this year.

We had Dandy to the vet in June because I thought he poked his eye. Guess they have a third eyelid to protect their eyes in deep grass when they don't know to close them. Our vet told us to give him one mg/lb of his weight twice a day. The Benadryl we had were 25 mg and he weighed 50 lbs so we gave him 2 as soon as we got home. He was better the next day so we didn't give him anymore.

Yes benadryl is safe but can cause drowsiness. You can try a generic non drowsy Claritan and get better results. I give a 10mg in morning and one in evening. I'm a firm believer.

1 Mg per lb is the standard dosage. Just make sure you are giving benadryl and not something with benadryl in it.

For what purposes would you give a dog Benadryl? Please list some of them. I think we have to be very careful giving our dogs medications. A lot of dogs are giving something to fix things that just can't be fixed.

I use it to help reduce swelling when snake bit.

Walked out to feed one morning and one of the dogs had a head that looked like a basketball, he looked bad, gave him some benadryl and went to work, looked normal when I got home may not of been the benadryl that helped but I was relieved

Vets recommended to us 3 different times because allergic reactions....one due to food change, Dandy's eye, and not sure if the other got into a sprayed field or somekind of insect. Only used until symptoms were gone.
My sister's vet recommended she give it to her Pitbull before she'd take it to his office to calm him down.

I've never used it on the hounds but I have on my German Shorthair Pointers before. The tablets I have say they're 25 mg. I used it on them to help calm them down a little before a show.
