females not going in heat

I got me a female who is 13 months old and still showing no signs of going in heat. Is this normal or what??

Over the past 15 years or so I usually had first heats around 15 to 18 months old. I was surprised when the pup I have now came in at 12 months.

I wouldn't let that worry me. She will be in soon. Some females just very. I've seen it start from 6 months up to 18 months before they come in.

I have female her that came and got bred at 9 months. I was gone working on road and my wife is good at watching that kind thing. And she said she never swelled never saw any male dog hanging around but sure enough she was bred. Needles say all my females stay in pen now when it's getting close to time come in.

REBECCA STATED Girls start there cycle around 13 yrs old does that mean there ready to bare kids???? Just because there able to doesn't mean there ready. I would never breed a female until there at least 3 yrs old. There not done growing until between 2 and 3 yrs old. They may be as tall as there going to get by a yr old but will continue to fill out ( chest and hips get wider) .DONT YOU THINK THERES A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GIRLS AND DOGS ??????? WERE TALKIN ABOUT DOGS HERE NOT GIRLS !! WE ALL HAVE OUR OPINIONS IN THE WAY WE DO THINGS, IVE SEEN SOME MIGHTY NICE HOUNDS COME FROM A 1YR TO 1YR AND A HALF OLD FEMALES. You made this statement as if it were a fact. It's simply not. As far as there being a diff. between girls and dogs I would have hoped you had been around both long enough to know the similarities and differences of each but I could be wrong.

Oh No Ron I cant help answer this question ,, My Grand Mother had her first child at the age of 13 ,, and continued to have 14 more kids ,, YES 15 KIDS ,, Dad said they had to fight for table scraps ,,

and as far as my opinion do dogs and Girls develop the same or can they be compared ,, All I know is I can keep a female dog a heck of a lot longer than I can a women , I think Rebecca is the longest relationship I have had with a Lady in a long time we been Frienemies almost 4-5 years now,, and she only hugged me once

My Trixie female is in heat now. She just turned 16 months old. I never had one that old at first heat. She is out of Batman and her mother is out of Blackhawk so she is double Sting and also carries Ace. I've been told some of the Sting females had odd heat cycles.

I have a 2.5 year old female now that didn't come in until she was over 2 years old, I had a littermate sister to her that came in right at 12 months old.. The female should be in heat sometime this month. So this will hopefully tell me if she's going to be a once year or every 6 months heat cycle.. Vet told me when I asked him about not coming in for so long not to worry no big deal..

When will my dog be old enough to breed?

Some males will start to have sperm by 7 months, but 10 months is more usual. Most have sperm by the time they reach 1 year. This early sperm is usually of a lower quality than sperm obtained from an adult dog. Adult dogs between the ages of 18 months to 4 years are usually in their prime and deliver the most viable sperm for impregnating the bitch. The quality starts to drop off after that and by 10 years old, the sperm of most stud dogs is of such poor quality that it will fail to produce a breeding.

The female dog, or bitch, also has an immature reproductive system at this age. The old adage of breeding the bitch during her first heat cheated a lot of puppies and mother dogs out of full health and vitality. Some bitches will come into their first heat around 6 months. They don't reach physical maturity until between 1 year to 2 1/2 years. Their bones and joints are still developing. If you want consistent, healthy litters, wait until your bitch is physically mature. This is something that you should talk to your dog's veterinarian about. She will need a good physical exam - before breeding - anyway.

You also need to be aware of the mental maturity of your bitch. You're going to be asking her to be responsible for 1 or more extremely tiny babies! Is she still a baby herself? Many of the smaller breeds seem to become mentally mature more quickly than the large breeds.

It is fairly common practice to breed the smaller females during their 2nd heat cycle while the larger breeds (such as Mastiffs, Wolfhounds and St. Bernards) need to wait through 3, 4, or more cycles. When you add to the physical immaturity the possibility of larger litters for the larger breeds, it's pretty easy to understand the importance of waiting a little longer. Breeding the larger bitches before they've reached physical maturity can produce severe "swayback" and bent legs.

If I pass up her first heat, when will she come back in?

The female's cycle length will be as individual as she is. Most come into season for the first time between 6 and 12 months, but the larger breeds may not come into season for 2 years. Wild canines only come into heat once a year; but, our domestic canines usually settle into a cycle of around 5 to 7 months. There are some small breed bitches that come into heat 3 to 4 times each year! Whatever her cycle settles into, she will likely maintain that into her old age. She will not experience menopause. Her fertility will simply drop off as she gets older until she will no longer "take".

The reproductive (heat) cycle of the female goes through several stages. Not unlike the human.

Abstract

The molecular steps in normal sexual development were largely discovered by studying patients and animal models with disorders of sexual development (DSD). Although several types of DSD have been reported in the cat and dog, which are often strikingly similar to human DSD, these have been infrequently utilized to contribute to our knowledge of mammalian sexual development. Canine and feline cases of DSD with sufficient evidence to be considered as potential models are summarized in this report. The consensus DSD terminology, and reference to previous terminology, is used to foster adoption of a common nomenclature that will facilitate communication and collaboration between veterinarians, physicians, and researchers. To efficiently utilize these unique resources as molecular tools continue to improve, it will be helpful to deposit samples from valuable cases into repositories where they are available to contribute to our understanding of sexual development, and thus improve human and animal health.

At a work conference a while back the speaker said something that I couldn't help but relate to coon hunting. He said " you will find people that have 30 yrs of experience in your field. And will find people that have worked in the same field for 30 yrs and are lucky to be able to lace up there own boots". The truth to the matter is some people just don't learn. Some people are so bull headed that they refuse to change there ways when someone shows them a better or more efficient way of doing things. Some are to lazy to care. Some have there priorities in the wrong order. One of the things that kill me is reading post were guys tell someone they have a lot to learn because they themselves have been doing this 30 to 50 yrs. Well that my be true, but can they tie there own boots??? I have been lucky to have people guide me in the right direction from the start that have EXPERIENCE. I've been able to side step mistakes that they had to learn themselves. Because of people like this I have been able to enjoy the fruits of there labor and enjoy success much sooner in my journey than they did. Sometimes the hardest part of coon hunting is wading through all the BS and stepping around the toxic waste to find the few good houndsmen out there to learn from. So the next time you hear "let me tell you something, I've been doing this 30 some yrs" look down at there boots!

Thank goodness for muck boots no laces. So I guess we will have to be approved to breed or sell pups now wow. Wonder who will step up to be that person just don't burn the books or they want know what to do.

When I was a coach for a local High School one of the most important things was to never say anything that may influence the youth in a bad way. Even when you think they are not paying attention they can surprise you. Trying to coach 14 teenage girls can be a huge challenge. Your not just coaching them for there sport, you have to become a mediator for there teenage fights. Be able to give relationship advice, and be able to recognize issues in there home life, as well as bullying. These things were far more complicated then the task of teaching them the fundamentals of the sport. Even with girls on team that had never played the sport before and just signed up just to be with there BFF. As an elite athlete I simply put into practice what I responded to the best when being coached. Which was don’t just tell me to do something , tell me why and the fundamentals behind it. It’s hard for a top athlete to change what has worked well for them in the past, that has catapulted them to the top of there field and made them the star that they are. The simple fact being with most changes you have a decline in ability at that task before you begin to show improvement. It takes time and practice to overcome what once was second nature. Understanding why the new way is going to make you even better drives athletes to master it. These are the reasons I post what is proven by much more intelligent people than us. People who do research for a living that are far more creditable than some guy that has been around for 30 yrs with no medical background. Kids my read these things and harm there dog because a wives tale was past on as fact. Based on what some have posted in the past, it sure wouldn’t hurt them to crack open a book ever once in a while. Or spend a little more time on web sites based on real research not just message boards
