Another Garmin question

I have a 320 and the compass wont stay calibrated. Standing in one spot it can happen and if i didnt know better it tell me my dog may be 800 yds north which he is but north on the garmin isnt true north. it could be south or west or who knows at that time. I am constantly spinning and flipping the dang thing and its a pain in the rear. Any help would be appreciated

Garmin Problem

All I know is make sure it is updated and calibrate your compass.

Crazy compass

I have been told some LED lights will mess up the compass reading...

Also standing close to your truck will cause it to spin

I never use the compass, I use the map and lock it north up. then any dummy can figure out which way the dog is heading.

Easy, Dan dogs my wife uses one and if I am in the woods I have to ask if the dogs are moving up or down and left and right. LOL

.

Dan have you ever tried TRACK UP. NORTH UP is very confusing to many. For those that are learning, NORTH UP means that no matter which direction you have your handled pointing, NORTH will be at the top of your screen. It is confusing for some because if your standing and pointing your handheld South the road or dog that may be on your right will show on the left of the screen or vice versa. With Track UP no matter which direction you point the handheld the way your pointing (arrow) rotates and the lay of the land such as ponds, roads and dogs will be positioned on the screen where they are in conjunction to you and which way your facing. There is a N arrow on the top of the screen to show your which is N if you need to know that. The only time I calibrate mine is if that indication gets off some.

yes mine is track up now. i can calibrate the compass walk 20 yards and stop and what it says north is will actually be another direction. it might stay calibrated for a while and then for no reason it will get out of whack. it seems to be getting worse. i used to only have to calibrate a couple times while hunting but now its like i am constantly doing it.

another thing that happens is it will say the dogs are say 200 yards to my right whatever that direction may be at the time but they are actually 200 yards to my left etc. other than the compass issue i love the 320 compared to the 220 i had.
