Has anybody ever heard of a grey or mouse colored pup that knows what causes it

Yep, seen quite a few. Genetics, something in the background. Some lines of dogs carry it. Same as the liver colored pups you see once in a while. Some lines of dogs will throw them. Do you have one now?

Yes some lines it pops up more often however its a recessive gene an both parents must have the gene to get the grey pups.

If your dog goes back to Woodstock Red Man, and I think some of the Mainstreet dogs do, that would be one place the color could have come from. I have seen Red Man throw pups that color. Also, the Silvertone line of dogs have thrown some that color.

They didn't stay grey colored they ended up being redtick as can be

That will happen too. I've seen several pups that were odd colors, but by the time they were weaned, they were the same as the rest. As long as they make good ones.
