Bear Problems!

I live in the heart of bear country! I was wanting to hear some good bear proof coon feeders.

Corn under water in creek

Nothing, if a bear wants it, he gets it. Just something as mentioned, rebar/chain, to keep your feeder from being carried off but they'll still ruin it if they are in the mood.

Tire feeder

Yeah I had a tire feeder until they tore the side walk out of it! Lol the corn in the water is probably my best option.

Dry corn only but the bear can't eat; and they sure have tried!

It's 12 in water pipe, scrap from a construction site. I have one made from heavy gauge sheet metal. Some people use metal grease buckets but a bear can destroy them.

Due to bear bating laws here in NC you can only use non processed foods. I use tires and buckets with sour corn in the winter after the bears lay up.

Just got back from hunting and bears have ate all the corn and pulled the buckets out of the ground in all four of our feeders. They were 5 gallon buckets in the ground with wet corn in them.

I like the idea in the picture above. Any more ideas???

I don't have welding equipment so it might be hard to make that rebar cage.

For the tire feeder mentioned above, do you drill holes in the sidewall? Or the tread? How may holes? How big?

I sour corn in a bucket before i put it out. They tend to not mess wit it as much as if i just put it out.

1 1/4 inch holes in side wall.Stake tire feeder down with a piece of rebar hammered down thru a lug nut hole

I tried that before. Still got it up. I drove a 6 ft t-post into the ground. And dropped the tire down over it thru the center hole

I used to cut off a 2-3 in sapling about 4 ft high and drop the tire over it. The bears just ripped the side wall open and ate. Now I just throw it on the ground and when the bear find it they move it and often turn it over, I then quit filling it until the bear lay up.

Have started just putting mine in old holler trees. Have to hunt them up. Bear can still eat but so can coons. Im sick of working on or replacing feeders. Just got back from putting out feed. Bear crap everywhere or bigfoot. Its big piles. Whatever it is hangs around till sept. Its gonna die. Have not hung camera because its illegal to bait bears here and if you know ones using your feeder your supposed to get it up.

You can hunt em here from sept to Jan 10th. Just not with dogs in north ga. Plenty of places you can kill one though. You ever kill one. You think twice before ever doing it again.

It takes an army to get em out of the woods and that's still not enough help.None of our state land will let you use atvs. So once folks go through that. They usually say never again. They disperse when acorns start falling and do get harder to come by. They want let us bait them either but if you want a good shot at killing one. Check out cohutta wma in ga regs. The first gun hunt. Its the best area I know of for a chance at a bear. Its a big and wild place. I wouldnt go it alone. We have a ton around here but unless you want to bow hunt. Our gin hunts on my closest state land dont really hit at good bear killing time.

Bear

Yeah I bear hunt in Wv with hounds it's not as bad as these guys are making it out to be it's a great time with some live action! Dragging them is just part of the job, if you want to hunt you can't cry about it that's all there is to it.

I do the same in VA, been at it 18 years and never killed one but Ive been in on a few of them draggins. I mean yeah its work but theres work in everythig, if it was easy everybody would do it. Definitely the most excitin thing Ive ever done.
