-- always carry (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928454449)

always carry

The man who lost his son to an alligator at the Floridian Resort must have thought he and his family would surely be safe there. After all, it's Disney Land. If only he'd been carrying. Of course who would ever expect to need a gun in that man made paradise. But if he had been so unreasonable as to carry, even there, he would still have his son. Even if it was illegal to have a gun, he should have had it anyway. It would have been worth it all and more. When you absolutely, positively need a gun, nothing else will do. Some things are worth breaking the law.

I doubt the gun would have helped but it might have. I shot a smaller gator than that in the bead twice with a 45. It aint like swamp people. Only one bullet was in his head. Other one didnt even penetrate at point blank range. The thing we need to do is. Stay out of places where you cant carry a gun. Dont spend money there period.

I agree with the original post however, the media would have made him out to be a gun weilding hillbilly wrecklessly carrying a illegal gun and killing a helpless gator that was trying to play with his son.

Gator......

I doubt a gun would have changed the outcome. Stop trying to turn this into something that's it's not, it's not about guns or our rights....!!
However, one thing would have been a life saver........Be more observant, keep a better eye on your Children or Grand Children.
I see plain ignorance almost daily out of Parents.
Know your surroundings......!!!

Most redickuless, disrespectful statement you ever posted and you have posted some doozies.

The boy was found about 15 feet from where he was attacked. He died of drowning. I suspect the gator would have turned the boy lose if it had been hit one time with any kind of bullet. But we'll never know because the man was reasonable and counted on the Floridian to protect them and proved a safe place.
I've been to cancun mexico twice. Both times we stayed at resorts on a lagoon. No one seemed to be concerned about gators. Later we learned that they lived in the mangrove swamps just 50 feet from the resort. I believe a 22 will penetrate an alligator unless it's hit at a fine angle. I'm going to research that at wilkipedia.

WoW!
You think {or even know if} a Nebraska CPL would be valid in Florida?
Let alone flying with it or driving threw states its not.

You can kill one with a pocket knife if you get that sweet spot on back of head. Even an ice pick. Miss it and I know for a fact a bullet will bounce right off.Ive got the head. II've got the witnesses course a good lung or heart shot will also kill em but it takes a while.

Many people who hunt gators use a 22. But that's not the issue. We're not talking about killing a gator. We're talking about shooting one. If the father had a 380 semi auto in a sneaky pete holter he probably could have shot the gator. Any shot would have so distracted it that it would have released the boy.
All I'm saying is that one must remain armed. One never knows when it might be the only thing that will save you. I carry almost always, except when going into government building having metal detectors. I carry when I cut the grass and when I go to church. I've seen guys carrying at the beach.

penetrate is one thing, kill is a totally different story. You can shoot them any where you like, even with a high powered rifle, and if they aren't hit in the kill spot, its likely they will continue their attack. They are predators and like every other, they have a one track mind when it comes to food. You would have to inflict a near mortal wound to stave off the attack, OR use something to stick at the gators eyes. They will retreat if the eyes are threatened. That is a fact. we deal with them on regular basis down here. The gator that got the child did exactly what most will do, drowned the prey, and will return for it at a later date, once the decomposition process has started. Most gators are deftly afraid of man, but put in a place where there are hundreds of people around daily, and probably are being fed by them too, they will loose their fear of man quickly. Hence the problem at Disney World.

Kid I hope you never have to use your pop guns on a attacking gator. Chances are you will not fair very well. Sure, they will run one off that swimming in the water, but then a swimming gator is not after food. Your 380 will only offer you false security, unless you are a real live Clint Eastwood and can hit the spot in less than a couple of seconds after the attack starts. I promise you that gator is extremely fast out the water and back in, and he/she will not stop for a photo session or to allow you to aim well. You have better odds of shooting the president and being successful than you will of stopping that gator with a 380. Know your prey before you hunt. YES, a sweet spot shot with a 22 will do it as dawg said. I have dispatched them with a hatchet under controlled circumstances, but it sure wasn't in the attack mode when I did.

People don't know their surroundings, to occupied with electronic devices & children aren't disciplined enough.

The father did struggle with the gator, don't know if a gun would have helped but a knife is legal almost anywhere. It doesn't matter how dressed up I get, my knife fits fine in a purse. Yes I would have fought a gator over my daughter with only a knife.

However you'd never catch me dead at Disney.
