How Ya Wanna Score This ???

This is what a judge asked at a rqe saturday night after shining a tree for 10 minutes that had a possum in it. Technically the thing was about 5ft away on some grape vines that went into the tree the dogs were on. I asked em if that possum was a coon would you of plussed it ? They wouldn't answer me. I know I would have. Had a guy with me just getting into the competition side of it and all he could say on the way home was some people just don't have any morals.

If there is an obvious place where it crossed or could have crossed then you have to score what you can see.

Now if its a 3 or 4 dog cast have fun getting a majority to agree to take a minus or a scratch.

Ok if three dogs there and you see a possum and fourth dog comes into tree but never offers to tree. Does he get scratched or is he hunting by himself?

How you going to minus a dog or scratch it for treeing somthing that smiles at the dog for doing a good job treeing it?

Squalling

You think its hard to squall a coon out, you should try a possum. If you can do it you have accomplished something in your life. Lol

Hunting by himself as long as its a Nite Ch or Grand Nite cast.

But the key is the dog has to come in after the cast arrives to the tree. If it's there before the cast in UKC it's just as guilty.

Just curious why would a dog get punished for being in the proximity of the tree but not showing intent to tree on off game.

I'm having trouble wrapping my thick scull around that one.

Now I understand that if a dog is at the tree, after the five but before the cast arrives, showing intent to molest off game then it will receive the next available and awarded such punishment. But without the intent to molest, I'm having trouble finding that dog guilty of a rule violation.

Dave it is UKCs stance that if the dog is there before the judge/cast arrives it is just as guilty even if it's not barking.

Some dogs act strange when dogs tree or run off game so coming in after the cast arrives it gets a free pass.

That's what we did. However one wanted to scratch the dog because he came in. But the dog never showed any interest in the tree.
