Bluetick Big Game Hunters

I would like to know who all hunts big game with bluetick hounds. searching for information and would like to have names and numbers if possible.

Eddie, as you know, I hunt lion and occasional bobcats with mine. I used to catch quite a few bobcats around here but we had a die out and populations are extremely low. I have to go south of San Antonio or the Navajo Reservation to find any bobcats. I make at 6-8 trips to the Navajo Reservation annually and a couple to the Big Bend region of Texas and New Mexico chasing lions.
I hunt coons around here to train and keep the dogs in shape but greatly prefer the lions. I especially like the lions on dry ground which separates the men from the boys.

that's awesome and I would love to go chase one of those big cats with you sometime I would like to extend the invite to the big game hunters to become BBOA members, get some write ups for our beautiful hard cover Blue Book, and hopefully get some page adds in this year so all the bluetick folks can see the cream of the crop in every area of hunting with blueticks. I hope all is well with you and your family Gary and hope to see you at the Bluetick Reunion

I had an article in the BBCHA Blue Book this last edition where I spoke the virtues of blueticks being the versatile breed. The article seemed to have been fairly well received as I have had several folks contact me since it was mailed out to the membership.
I have been hunting with hounds for over 50 years and have hunted with many different breeds but the blue dogs seem to the wide variety of game and terrain that I ask them to hunt.

That's expensive wow! I'm with you on that. I would like to go but can't afford nothing like that.

A lion hunt with an outfitter is an expensive hunt. I would rather hunt lion than anything else and have access to several ranches in Texas where we have a fair population. It is all dry ground and I never seem to find time to get out there until it is too hot. For this reason, I always purchase a tag in the Navajo Reservation and hunt with a buddy or by myself. This season runs from Oct.1 thru end of March. I also hunt on a few ranches in NM when I get the chance.

Clint and Darlene Pierce over around Denton Montana have some nice blue dogs and they do good with them on big game. Darlene's dad Dick Wilson had the blue dogs for years and now Clint and Darlene are raising them and Dick's nephew has some of the same stuff and Dick's granddaughter hunts too and has the same line. Super nice folks and pretty dang nice dogs. If I wanted a blue dog that's where I'd go to get one.

i would second clint and Darlene on there blue ticks. I have a 3 year old female from there stuff and she is by far my best dog. my problem is im new to hounds and I want to try every type of hound and I have a mixed color pack

I hunt blue dogs on bear in Wisconsin been having very good luck with them I have some nice pups 10 mths old running them

Clint and Darlene Pearce have some of the bigger dogs that are mentioned by Kevin Jackson above. I am not sure that they will weigh over 100 pounds but I am sure that the males weigh in the 80-90 pound range.

Just talked to their daughter and she said their males are 70-75 pounds and once in a while get one 80. They are not gascon type hounds. They are nice looking solid built hounds and the couple I've seen go were the real deal on lions. buckcreekgascons, I sent you a PM with Darlene's number so you can talk to her and she'll be able to tell you about them.

Thanks for the comments from everyone. This is Darlene Pearce of Big Sky Blue Kennels. Yes, we raise and hunt blueticks from a line that my dad started years ago. We like our males to be in the 70-75 lb range. We do get some that run a bit bigger or smaller than that tho. We like our females in the 60-65 lb range. Most of all.... to be of breed quality, they must be hunters! We do have a litter on the ground that is a week old and another litter expected September 13th. I will eventually post on Big Game Classifieds, but until then, you can contact us.....

A good friend and hunting partner of mine from MT has a really nice female from Clint and Darlene. I have traded pups with him and sent five pups up there to other lion hunters and bear hunters.
I don't hunt bear, prefer to concentrate on lions. Bear hunting is illegal in Texas and when I go out of state, many times I hunt before bears are hibernating and don't want my dogs messing with them. I much prefer to hunt dry ground as I live down here in this desert.
